cooking live rock

Missed a week of testing and no pics this week but still some crud coming off and po4 still hangin out around .25
will update next week as usual with pics and such
 
How necessary is this if you have had hair algae growing out of the rock for a few months? Are there other ways? I scrubbed all my rock about 2 weeks ago and removed about 99% of the hair algae. I have been running gfo/carbon in a reactor with no fish right now. So I'm not feeding the tank. My rock Is just covered in coraline algae and i would hate to lose it all....:/
