ok

i was re-arranging the rocks in the tank other day and i felt like i saw a crab in the rock

i took a closer look and it actually is a crab

purple in color .. i have no idea how it even managed to get into that rock ... its still alive and throwing its pincers on me ..

the gap in the rock is too small to get it out ..

can i just leave it there ??

that rock has been in my tank for 2 months ..

what should i do .. i dont wanna break that rock ..

Freshwater dip should make it get out. Just drop the rock in a bucket or RO water at the right temp and he'll scurry out after a bit.

so you think its staying in there cause it wants to but not because its trapped in there ??

umm i wouldnt be worried if its his choice unless he dies and spoils my water :( :D

Yes, he is not trapped. He's staying in for protection.

He won't spoil your water if he dies, but he may be a fish killer/coral eater. Red eyes or sharp claws and he's gots to go.

ummm claws are sharp
bluish kinda eyes purple colored body

will take a look when i go home

one question though if i dip the rock in freshwater to get it out ... wouldnt it kill the live bacteria on the rock ??

If a crab got in, he can get out. Snails are another case, they often wedge themselves in places they cant get out.

He is likely doing it for protection.
Your definitely going to want to get him out.

perhaps this isn't the hobby for you then :(
I'm in my tank doing something daily. Nice tanks don't come by easy.

It is a labor of love. Eventually you will find a form that makes you happy! As for the crab, if you didn't buy it smash the crap out of it.

Lol. Tgunz just had one. Wasn't eating anything but would drag his softies under the rock. I would suspend him above some tank water. He will drop in. Otherwise take a 20oz container and drop a silverside in overnight. Make sure the container is near his den. You'll catch him and all ur hurmits. :)

ummm i never saw it out of the rock .. i still wonder if its stuck in there ??

its been 2 months since i had that rock and tank and never once saw him out ..

Ya... not to be demotivating and not saying it's you, but people who get into this hobby thinking it's easy peezy, things go south pretty fast for them.

Look at it this way, it's fun to catch the little villain crab! And if he's been really bad it's even more fun to take him to someone who has a trigger! hehe

lol im not te kind who leaves things amid .. or atleast i try to keep up :D

but spending a whole lotta time on the tank these days does make the wifey angry ;)
she likes it more than i like it though :D

If you dip the rock, it won't kill the bacteria. They are able to survive extended trips and more without little moisture, so you'll be fine.

No joke. Cableguy just picked up the tank and rock from me. After removing the lr from my bucket we discovered the anthias killer from last November. Still alive after three tanks and two months in a bucket. It was the size of a quarter. I wish I got a good pic. I never saw this guy in my tank.
