Crued's WKHMG Custom (Pic Heavy)

The metal beams are original to the house. One that runs through the fish tank room (which is basically right smack dab in the middle of the tank) supports that column you see the tank is built around. The other is 5-6 feet further, or about 2-3 feet from the "left" end of the tank. The microlams support the "right" end of the tank. Those metal poles you see embedded in the framing hold the microlams up which then hold the original floor joists and the additional floor joists added for the tank support. The other end of those joists lay on top of the existing metal beams of the house. All the framing you see really has nothing to do with the tank support, it's all part of my basement finishing project.

Very cool---but I honestly thought the new beam underneath was for the tank. That's why I asked. Cool set-up and good luck with the build !

How's this coming along, it looks like a long term build, but don't leave us hanging, what type of livestock is going in it?

Moving along very slowly. I wanted to do a custom sump/fuge setup and didn't want to go the DIY route, so it took me awhile to find a builder. I should have those units this week and will post pictures. Then I need to finish the stands they will go on, which I should have done this week and some pics of that too. Lots of updates coming shortly!

This will be a FOWLR. The "LR" will be Walk Smith manmade rock. It will be seeded with 100lbs of live sand from CarribSea (and an additional 300 lbs of their dry sand). I have enough LED lighting to burn a hole to earth's core, but it's mainly for fish brilliance. Maybe if I'm feeling a little saucy I might do some mushrooms and an anemone or two, but I don't have any plans for any coral.

Love the sounds of the build, should be a great looking tank. Curious what and how many LEDS you'll use?

08/03/15 Fish Tank Room Update

This is the room in the basement, all ready for sumps, plumbing, pumps and equipment.

There will be a short sump on the "island" part, and then a long 'fuge' on the long part. The vinyl tubing is connected to my skimmer pump temporarily for filling the tank upstairs.

RO storage and mixing.

The angled corner is where my 48" Lifereef skimmer will sit.

"Emergency" drain in floor which has RO unit waste water in it. Drain is trenched to basement's sewage pit.

This drain shares the same drain as the drain in the floor, eventually this will be plumbed into emergency overflow of the sump system.

Here are pictures of what the return plumbing looks like on top of the tank. The return is controlled by an Oceans Motions "wavemaker" which is 1.5" inlet and 4 x 1" outlets. Inside is a drum which has "ports" which rotates around shooting the water out the different tank returns. This particular drum follows a 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1 pattern. The reason for all the crazy bends and what not are to bring the plumbing up as close to the top of the canopy as possible so that they are not blocking lights. If they were lower, the light dispersion would be blocked partially. Some of the other crazy bends and twists are to clear the sides of the cannopy and interior supports of the canopy.

You can see in this pic the Radion 15w in the middle of the canopy and notice how the 2 middle return lines are plumbed up and to the sides of it.

The front returns have about 6" of Loc-Line and are pointed upper middle of the tank. The rear returns have about 2 links of Loc-Line and are pointed middle/down.
Also in this pic you can see the Maxspect Gyer 150 to add some additional flow. It is no longer work and I would not recommend this finicky device to anybody.

Yes, I know, the middle returns don't have unions. If some day I need to disassemble, the will be cut in "somewhere". I got lazy and dumb with the hours upon hours in this.
