Dendro or deadro

You're probably already aware, but they ARE nocturnal. That's about the extent of my knowledge of dendros! :D

I am dosing Kent m, so is that maybe causing it to stay withdrawn? It is only an inch off the bottom (weird camera angle). I thought they were nocturnal and I know they need to eat so I've been checking it every couple hours. Thanks for the thoughts so far

sal 1.026, ph 8.4, amonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, cal 480, phosphate 0+, hardness 161.1, mag 1400. was dosing Kent Tech M 28mg/day until MG got to current level for bryopsis.

I did a little mix of ova and rods coral near it with no response. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the orange. It's just as bright as it was when I got it.

Sun corals tend to be nocturnal but orange dendros are usually open. All three colonies of mine are out all night and day. I have around 30 heads between them.

Just give it some time and squirt some food juice in their area. And they seem to like a decent flow too. And unlike sun corals, placement in the tank doesn't matter because they are non-photosynthetic so they don't care about light.

Unlike sun corals? Placement is exactly the same for both.

My sun corals didn't like the light and would close up when the lights were turned on. I've since trained them to open up all the time and adjusted them to high light.

Initially, you should have these under a shaded ledge until they are comfortable and then gradually move them to where they will have more light, if that's where you're wanting them to go. That may help you get them to open.

Another thing is that my orange dendros prefer temps a couple degrees cooler than most corals. I used to keep my tank at 80 until I lost a one-headed frag with a few babies on the side. These dendros are deeper water corals, so they are used to cooler temps. When I dropped it down to 77 degrees, they seemed to do better, even though I beleive they would like it better even cooler.

When I go diving, the sun corals are always growing on the undersides of things. Seeing them all open on a night dive is a spectacular sight!

Did you get it from the reef ball workshop? If so it took my frag until last night to open up. That was lots of coaxing with mysis too

Mine are open all day, but I have noticed that at night they open so much wider. They are my favorites....which is why I plan to buy every one I can find in Chicago. Next I plan to buy all of the unicorns!!!

i might have a sweet deal for you on some special obi-wan-kenobi-in-episode-6 hiding dendros. They're all the rage. . .
