Hi All-

I figure I start a build thread for my 2 son's first saltwater 12gal tank. I will get my list of items that will be used for this build and I will "try" to post as much info as I go. Please fell free to comment or make suggestions as I go.

Get it set up! 12's are great sized tanks since they're all inclusive and pretty decently priced. Plus you can set them up just about anywhere and there's still enough room to make them pretty sweet.

Here is a picture of the 1/2" lip around the outside of the tank. It's a nice touch for the nano.

It came with LED. It's 12W, 6500LUX light output (apprixmately equals to 72W of T5HO). This should be plenty for softies. I want to modify already since it doesn't have separate power cords so if on timer they both would shut off. Manual is not an option:)
 
chemi-pure and purigen both come in their own media bags. chemi-pure needs replace every 4-6 months, purigen needs "recharging" every 6 months, and is good for 3 recharges, but is cheap enough might as well just replace with a fresh bag.

BTW I'm still intrested in the sand so hopefully I can get over to you soon. You have my number so let me know what works for you and I'll try to come out. Weekends are best.
 
Ill re-rinse the sand out for you in the meantime, but yea, any evening or over this weekend will be fine, ill be home with my boy while mom is at work, so we usually just kill it at home on those weekends. The sand has been sitting without aeration for over a week now, but its already been rinsed out, ready for a new tank (may want to rinse once again before putting in the tank). I can also provide you a scoop of live sand in a baggie or something, but you would want to keep that aerated in fresh saltwater until you need it to seed the stuff i have to give away.
 
get rid of it you dont want metal with salt water, they sell nice plastic ones that work just as well
 
Hi guys,

In what chambers would I put the chemi-pure and purigen? Progress is very slow but I should have this done within the next 2 weeks. Iv'e made a few changes and hopefully ill have some pics by the weekend.
