Does this car look totaled?

no carmax, you dont have to be afraid if you are buying something that still has factory warranty. You will probably be buying at whatever brand dealer your car is. Give you an example we bought our 09 mini beginning of year, got the best price i could find anywhere within a few hundred miles of here and where did i buy? at a mini dealership. My car still under factory warranty for a few more months too and when that comes to an end i have the option of extending that warranty for a fee that is not 3000(like carmax made you pay).

Ill keep that in mind Jose. Funny thing is i have an appointment on tuesday to take the car to carmax to have the electrical system looked at. Windows would roll down unexpectedly, I was constantly replacing headlights and the radio would flicker on and off with the head lamp. oh, neither power sources would work 100%. We are looking at Wagons and Vans now anyways. good riddance.

To be honest and i hate admitting this but car max is a great place to buy. They were one of my clients andi spent a lot of time in their shops. The extra money u Pay gets ua car that has been looked over and the stuff that was wrong was actually fixed. From my experience and me and Jose were just talking about this yesterday most dealers just band Aid stuff to get a quick sell. Or of its something the average person wouldn't notice they don't do anything. I have been to a lot or high end dealers and i would never buy from any of them.

Try to stay away from vw/audi. They are notorious for engine suspension and electrical issues.

I personally have bought my last two cars off of craigslist. A lot of people are nervous about getting a raw deal, but if you know what your looking for you can get awesome deals. My only advice is to be patient and look daily. The deals are out there, you just have to be the first to jump on them! My other suggestion would to have a mechanic buddy kinda on call to go check out a car if you dont have the knowledge or comfort level in checking out a car.

Agreed just like with reefing u find some crazy deals Om cars. Best to have a tech go with u when u decide to look at one. If u were closer id be more then happy to be that guy but your far from me lol

ok... so, i just spoke to a rep from progressive and the cars firewall and frame have been compromised. After a quick convo with the gf; we both agree that were going to stay clear of VW. Time to go mini van/wagon shopping. I have a few mechanic buddies, but they are never around when I need em. on tuesday I have to make my backup POS 98 Nissan Sentra pregnant lady and a kid worthy. This includes new rear drums/pads, front disk/pads, struts. CV Axles, ball joints, an oil change and spark plugs. Wish me luck. lol. my nissan has less miles than the jetta at 65k...

If u need any help hit up me or Jose. Def don't pay full shop prices if u are paying to get it done.

I wouldn't be concerned with dealing on craigslist or auctions. My only advice to you is to bring a mechanic with you. For auctions, go a couple days before the auction, get a few VIN #s, and run a carfax report on them when you get back. Just have your mechanic really inspect the car for you down to the screw.

I know nothing about cars myself. The money i saved going with an auction or craigslist, i gave some of it to the mechanic for being really detailed and genuine. There were many times where I fell in love with some cards because of the outside, but my mechanic told me this was changed/replaced/modified/hidden. I'm glad I brought him.

IMO, i think purchasing a car from carfax is a joke. For the price you pay, you might as well buy it straight from the dealer. Sure carfax may fix up the car "the right way", but it doesn't justify the sticker price on the vehicle.
