Dragonfish's ARC 6.25 Office Tank

Well I'll be damned, darkness and peroxide worked a charm. I pulled the box off on Friday and turned the lights back on. As of today no new dinos! Kind of a relief.

Aaaannnnnddddd.... I spoke too soon. A few days after my last post the entire tank is covered again. Looks like time to tear it down. I have more brand new sand but I'll probably need to buy new rock and sterilize the tank somehow. I have Neebles to thank for this!

Well, I nuked the tank today. I drained all the water out, pulled out the only few crabs and snails out and sprayed it all down with hydrogen peroxide. After sitting for about 15 minutes I filled it all back up. I expect to have lost pretty much all my micro-fauna and will definately see a cycle. With my luck, the dinos will be the only thing that survives. :hate-you: This was my last ditch effort. If it fails, I'll chuck the rock and sand and sanitize the tank before starting over with brand new everything.

This morning the tank is much clearer. My frogspawn is dead but the zoas appear to be fine as are the hermit crabs. I'm fairly sure every pod and bristle worm died and surprisingly it bleached my coraline. There are still some traces of dinos on the back wall that I will scrape off. Fingers crossed I don't have to throw it all out.

For those following along, huge dosed of hydrogen peroxide is a great way to kill every living thing in a reef tank. Even the coraline algae died. Frighteningly enough, I still see small strands of dinos on the back wall. I'm going to scrub it off and see if it comes back.

There is now a swirling white cloud in my tank. I can only assume it is a bacterial bloom to deal with the added ammonia from all the die off.

As of this morning, the tank is spotless and the water is crystal clear. I'm going to do a big water change and wait a few weeks before I put anything else in there. 1 living hermit crab still in there. I don't usually name things in my tank but this guy kind of deserves one.

My tank has been totally spotless and devoid of life except one lonely hermit crab :) Today I did a 90% water change and added Prodibio Biodigest Start to make sure all the Ammonia from the die off is taken care of. Monday I'll do some water tests and see where we are.

Ok it's been a month and the dino's have not come back and I'm happy to report that Napoleon is still alive! Time to stock this thing again.

Did you feed at all that month?
A month with napoleon only eating detrious/grazing.... very nice.
Keep it safe.

Time to concetrate back on reefing
