ok people , need some ideas , im setting up my tank and MY SUMP WILL BE IN THE BASEMENT , WHAT IS THE BEST MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO SET UP MY DRAINS ? I WILL BE USING BOTH HOLES IN BOTH MY OVERFLOW BOXES AS DRAINS AS I HAVE A RETURN LINE THAT COMES UP THE BACK OF MY TANK .

NOW I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE AS QUIET AS POSSIBLE BUT NEED TO DRAIN FAIRLY QUICKLY AS I DONT WANT TO VALVE BACK MY PUMP TOO MUCH ? IT WILL BE A HAMMERHEAD PUMP THATS RATED UP TO 2400 GPH ...... SO THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS WOULD HELP

THANKS MUCH

durso, i have both drain and return setup that way, though you will never really overcome the limitation of the pipe size, to be quiet you need to reduce your return pump output, anything running close to capacity is going to be noisy no matter how much you work on quieting it.

hey mark,
i usually combine the two bulkheads in each overflow box into 1.5" pvc drain.
you will have two 1.5" drains feeding the basement and 1.5" for the return.
in each overflow use 1" and 1.5" durso drain pipes, do not glue, you will have to play with the heights of the two durso for noise.
keeping your drain pipes with minimal pitch will also help with noise.
cut the floor for the plumbing the same size as a floor vent, no need to repair floors later.

matt ,
your stand stand and canopy with side cabinets look awesome !!! One hell of a job !!!
Now you said in each overflow use 1" and 1.5" durso drains , the holes in the overflow are 1" and 3/4" now im assuming your saying to use the 1.5" and reduce it to fit the 1" hole and the 1" and reduce it down to fit the 3/4 " hole correct ?

Thanks
