for those who have Ca Reactors

yeah, I've been running it for over a week now, the first week it was up, I was testing daily. it was keeping my Alk at 10 and my Ca around 440, so far so good.

of course, while I was out last week, the tank PH probe went wonky, showing well below 7.9 (actually 7.6) and the Ca Reactor basically shut off for a couple days and my Ca and Alk dropped a bit, but nothing horrible (I think around 8 Alk and 400 ca).

I actually am getting some good response from my sps from the "stable" and increased Ca/Alk. I had one red milli frag that was nearly white, that I moved down to the sandbed as well, its slowing getting color back.

OK, I am considering changing my 2 part setup to a Ca reactor. Even with 2.5 gallon jugs, I am changing them too frequently as the demand for Ca/Alk is going through the roof in my setup. My concern is that Alk may get too high with a Ca reactor since I am doing biopellets as well. I try to keep my Alk below 8.5. Is it possible to use a Ca reactor with biopellets?

Also what do you recommend for a roughly 120G SPS dominant system? I was looking at the GEO 612HD package on Premium: http://premiumaquatics.com/store/me...de=PA&Product_Code=PA-GEO612HD&Category_Code=

hey Bryman, I'm no Ca Reactor expert, but the 612 be good for a 120G SPS, the one thing with going bigger, is you have to touch it less due to bigger capacity. Not sure about the ALK issue, mine is now holding steady around 10 and my tank it doing much better than when it was hanging around 8 and would constantly dip to 6 becuase Kalk was not keeping up

Thanks Gig. Are you running biopellets or carbon dosing too?

Anybody try the AquaMaxx Star S-1 or S-2? Looks like they have some innovative features and decent price.

I run kalkreactor, biopellets, and calcium reactor...no issues... i cant keep my tank stable with just calcium reactor, I have to use kalk in my top off to keep levels solid.
my calcium reactor never turns on or off, just set the bubble rate and let it do its thing.. not sure about your automation question as never had a reason to turn the calcium reactor off. seems like it would be counter productive to have the calcium reactore going on/off alot to me... Just use kalk or whaterver you prefer to balance with your test kits. Looks like a nice kalkreactor you have there, I have seen that brand but didnt realize they made smaller reactors, very cool.
