I just got a $70 check in the mail. Couldn't for the life of me figure out why a publishing co would send me this. I called their # & they told me it was for writing a review for an online aquarium mag about something (I don't remember what). I figured maybe $10 for that... I gotta write more reviews!

thats cool. But at the same time shows why reviews might be BS. not that your review was bs at all but that they would pay people to write good reviews. I bet this might encourage people to write bogus reviews and sponsor a product for money even though the product was horrible.

so Very true and oh yea we have a lot of ppl who advertise, push some products to get commissions.

I have gotten replacement items or next generations for bad reviews before. I was also a big yelper the past few years and i started getting recognized by owners at two place. Always got free things there. It is nice when you aren't expecting it. In reality it is cheap advertisement honestly.

Yelp is an exploitive business. You can have 500 5 star reviews, but they will basically hide them, and show your 10 worst reviews, unless the reviewed company pays Yelp a fee, to show the positive ones. No different than CarFax which spends millions of dollars convincing consumers that dealers are not legit, if they don't offer a carfax. Forcing the dealer to pay upwards of $3000/month, to provide an often uncomprehensive, and incomplete vehicle report.

Yeah, I've noticed that they only post 3 reviews & the rest are hidden but ALL my review are wonderful, so it's all good... And folks can read the 7 others, if they go to the "Hidden Reviews".

Do you have any proof of that? Yelp is pretty well known for not accepting money or any other kind of incentive in order to show hidden reviews. It's all a search algorithm. If the person posting the review has no other reviews, no friends on yelp, no check ins, etc. it limits whether they will be shown. The reviews also can pop out of hidden status based on the reviewers other activity. One of my friends works for a small company with that issue. A ton of 5 star reviews but they are all hidden and only the 2-4 star reviews are showing. They tried to pay, tried to advertise on yelp, etc. None of it helped.

I used to have a bunch of my reviews hidden, but after building up my account and basically proving I'm a real person, I only have 1 hidden review.

They are constantly calling me to give them $$$. Right after I stopped answering their calls, they started hiding most of my reviews. All us independant business owners are well aware of this...

So nothing but conjecture. Got it.

Couldn't have anything at all to do with the fact that the reviews that are hidden are from members with only one/two total reviews and little to no other activity (profile photo, friends, check ins, etc.) while the non-hidden reviews are from members with more activity? You know, exactly what the Yelp review algorithm is written to do? If you want more reviews to show up, have more customers write reviews. It will change the average review score, average reviewer score, and pop hidden reviews back into the main portion of the page.

In fact, one of the non-hidden reviews appears to be from you speaking about your company in the third person..

Nope, 2 of the 3 reviews that are not hidden are from 1x posters with no pic. Several hidden ones are long-time reviewers with avatars with lots of Yelp "friends". I just got a new positive review & an older one got hidden. I'm in several groups about promoting your business & most won't go near Yelp. Angie's List is even worse. Unless you get members to post daily reviews, you wind up on page 100...

I'm looking at what I believe to be your yelp page right now. Has your phone number on it. There are 7 total hidden reviews. One with an avatar, two with 2 reviews, and 4 with one review, zero friends, and zero avatars. If you have some proof that it isn't your yelp page please feel free to post it and I'll delete everything I've said.

Yeah, my friend has a car dealer in Mokena, IL. Yelp wanted thousands to put the good reviews up. Collegecarschicago.com. One of the highest rated used car sources around. A+ BBB rating from day 1, and still going.

That's very weird, Yelp literally wouldn't take money from my friend's business to put up their good reviews out of the hidden review section. Interesting stuff.
