Halide Issue

I'm having an issue with my combo halide/T5 fixture. I recently installed a frag tank next to my DT. I switched my kessil A350 over to the frag tank and put my old halide/T5 fixture over the DT.

All electrical is run through my RKE which is all plugged into a American DJ power strip which is plugged into a single outlet.

My problem is now that I've got the halide running, it won't stay on. It's a 250 watt driven by a lumantek e-ballast. The bulbs fires up and warms up but once it reaches peak intensity it shuts off. From my understanding of the lumantek e-ballast it adjusts the wattage to the bulb as it is firing up. So once the bulb is fully fired up it is pulling the most wattage and therefore using the maximum power available to light the bulb. So when it shuts off at this point is it simply because I am overloading that outlet?

When I initially set it up I had both fixtures and all electrical running normally for about a day before this issue started.

While I'm on the topic of lights I'm also contemplating just scrapping the halide/T5 fixture (due to bulb replacement costs and power consumption) and sticking with LEDs on the DT.

Ideally I'd get the kessil A360 so my display frag tank and DT would match, but I have a wedding to pay for! So I've been looking at either a D120 or OR T247.

What's the better option overall. Both are pretty similar in led spectrum, led quantity, and output, however the OR seems to have a better more uniformed spread and the controllability and only having a single cord are really appealing. But it comes at 2× the cost of a D120. I have no problem spending the extra I just am not sure if it's entirely worth it.

Sounds like a bad ballast. I had the same problem si I ripped my ballast apart and there was some melted plastic. I fixed it and ran it for a day with no problems. But that halide is not in use right now. So I'm not sure if the problem was fixed long term

Try just plugging it to a 110 outlet and bypass the power strip , do you have a extra bulb laying around? Do what you can to single out that ballast.

I don't have an extra bulb anymore I recently tossed it unfortunately. I'll give it a try in a different outlet and see if it'll run all day. I think I'm leaning towards just another led fixture though. I love MH but it's just so much more to run a Halide fixture than an LED

I did this morning and same thing so looks like the ballast is going. It was purchased in 2008 so it's somewhat old. Looks like I'll definitely be going the led route since a new ballast is roughly the cost of an OR fixture or D120.

Oh and it is a DE 250w
