Hammer is dying

How much can I expect it to be raised? Is it really significant if I do end up having to dose? Just wondering if maybe I should hold off doing my top off until I have the water tested, this ay if needed I can pull a bit of water out and add more fresh

It will slightly, but over time it will raise it.

I'm confused... you should only be topping off fresh RO/DI, so no reason not to stop topping off.

Maybe I didnt word it well, if raising mg raises SG, then in order to keep SG steady you would need to remove some saltwater to allow to put more freshwater in the tank.

Picked up a mag test kit, coming in at 1160, going to start dosing and hopefully it will save it. Again thanks for the offer ted

Took the mg from 1160 to 1300 over 4 days, the Hammer started looking good, Monday one head was fully gone but the other 2(1 and a half really) were fully extended and puffed up looking really happy. Wed I got home and they were both deflated all night, checked the parameters everything came back the same as it was last week and mg was at 1300. Last night 2 heads gone, the last one deflated still....right before lights off I saw that it appeared to eject from the skeleton, I moved the head back to the skeleton and moved it to the lowest flow area in the tank. Seemingly I have lost this guy.

Just really frustrated at this point as I have lost more corals in a year in the nano than I did in 6 years in my old large tank. Debating just going larger or possibly building a new stand that can accomodate a 10 gallon sump to up the water volume by about 20-25%.

Sorry to hear that Bwinder.

My hammer seems to be doing pretty well. Here are my specs and maybe I can help with ideas for yours. I will admit my parameters fluctuate, but, I wouldn't say by much. I ATO to keep my salinity consistent. I also do a 20~30% WC every other week.

Alk 8.0
Mg 1350
Cal 440
Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Phos all undetectable
SG 1.025
Temp 79F

I have it positioned about 16" under a 6 bulb t5 and off to the side of a mp40. It gets current but I would say it is gentle.

My Magnesium was also low (before I corrected it) but that never seemed to effect any of my LPS. The only thing I can visibly notice when my magnesium is low is that I get more nuisance algae growth and slower SPS growth.

Finally, my frogspawn, hammer, and trumpet coral LPS seem to be the happiest with 2 or 3 mysis feedings a week. Sometime I will feed mysis or rod's once or twice and feed coral food once a week. I try to vary the diet as much as possible.

If you need some pics to help describe location and or environment let me know. Good luck.
