Heidi's 150 gallon Cube

Welcome! Beautiful tank you have!

What a beautiful setup. Nice job.

Awesome pics & setup Heidi! My favorite photo is the purple digi close up. Welcome to the forums.

Thank you all so much for the kind word!! And for the warm welcome to the forum!! Purple digi is one of my favorite corals as well, I grew it from a little 1 inch frag :) I will have to dig that picture out to show you all!

I love all of the tangs in that tank, one huge group of friends... :D

They are lovingly referred to by my family and me as the "Tang Gang" all get along great so far!

Very nice tank.I really like your aquascape, very open, not a typical wall of rock.Welcome to CR.:wel1:

Thank you! I put a lot of time and thought into that scape. I was going for a minimalist kinda look and wanted to give my fish as much open water to cruse around in as I could. I am just not a "wall of rock" kinda girl :)

Awesome tank!

Thanks!

Real beautiful tank... keep it up..

Thank you! :)

Hi heidi, looking good.hope to see you and Christian on here on a reg basis.

Thanks Gus!! It has been quite a crazy couple of weeks for me. I will be hanging around a lot more now that its getting chilly outside

It's very peaceful - love how you put it together

Thank you!

Same tank as me.

Very nice. ;)

You have wonderful taste in tank dimensions! I will have to look you tank up now to check it out! Thanks for the kind words.

very nice tank

Nice 150DD. :)

Thanks Guys! Very warm welcome!

I LOVE this one, any chance you'd want to trade frags for a piece of it?

I could do that :) I am kinda only in the mood for SPS lately so if you have a little inch or 2 chunk of something unique we could make a trade for sure :) I will be coming to the Chicago swap next year for sure but we are pretty close and my Husband and I go into the city on dates and whatnot so maybe one of those times we can make a little exchange! It is a slimer (didn't grow at all for the first 6 months I had it and then all of a sudden bam!) One of my favorets in my tank because of its bright "highlighter" color

Lol! I think tapatalk should display location! Didn't realize you were so far away, im like 40min west of chicago. Nice tank and awesome corals thou!

Awe thanks Dansreef! A beefy skimmer, rodi for top off, great lights and a few other things to keep your water super clean and you can have one just like it :)

I am actually scheming a little bit... I really like the cube design. I nixed a project a couple of weeks back that would have put a 120 in a wall that would have ended up being a see through from my kitchen to my home office. I am now thinking of putting a cube.... like a 90 in my office instead. I need to get some pricing from some LFS... to see if the numbers will work. I could go to a 120... or even a 150 like yours.

We will see....

You will love the freedom you have when scaping a cube tank. Also it's super nice to be able to view the tank from 3 sides. It's like 3 different tanks in one! I love it and sounds like you will too, best wishes!

Don't you work for happy coral?

I do some part-time stuff for happy coral yes. I will be working some of the swaps with him and I do a bit of website work/ delivery runs, stuff like that :) since we were friends before I work mostly for coral! Can't beat working for coral.

As far as any other news goes: The tank is doing great, I have been able to beat my cyano. My nutrients have stayed very low, due to dosing of MB7 and skimming like crazy. I have also been feeding coral frenzy every day but only about half of what my tank calls for. thanks for looking. I have a friend that is making me a fun sounding toy which will be used to "electrocute" some nuance mushrooms and apstasia :) Sounds like fun I know!

Tank Update :) (I know its been a while but really it has been uneventful this last month up till the last week or so)

I keep having problems with my calcium being all high in relation to my alkalinity. Another problem I seemed to be having was some kind of diatom bloom all of a sudden. Lastly my purple monopora Digi has almost completely bleached and since it is spread and covering one of the ends of an attached rock on the top of the tank, there is no way to really move it anywhere if it is bleaching because of the lights. It might be getting mad at my alk swings I can't seem to control lately. ??? Not 100% sure... Oh my husband came home it "a surprise" It is another fish, like we need it.... Exquisite fairy wrasse. I'm not real happy about it. I have been feeding a ton, dosing MB7 and keeping my n and p pretty low/zero I am sick of my sand, every time a fish or something stirs it up I get a diatom bloom, its ugly and dingy so I started removing it last water change. I plan to suck out the rest at the next 2 water changes as to not off set the bacteria balance in the tank. Meanwhile, I am starting bio pellets. So thats whats up with the tank. Here are some pictures. I got a new camera (last week) so they are not the best but I am amazed at how clear my fish pictures are. It's a Canon T2i rebel and so far I LOVE it. Thanks for reading and enjoy the pictures!

what my skimmer did for almost 3 days after I removed about half of the sand from the DT, I ran carbon and the skimmer really didn't get back to normal until I hooked up the bio-pellets last night

Excuse the mess, I had to take everything that was on the sand and put it up while I vacuumed the sand out. I will take another picture of the tank full on once the sand is all gone and I rearrange the "ground coral"

Enjoy!

How have I missed this thread for so long? Great looking tank! I'm a big fan of larger cube tanks and this one is no exception. Great variety of corals and great pictures! That mushroom 3 pics up is pretty crazy looking.
