Help Drilling Tank

The guide does work, you can set it on top of the putty ring. You only need it to get it started. Just do not use the glass bit to drill the plywood, find a hole saw to match!

Even if you chose to make some super large putty ring, you are still using a guide to try to cut a circle, which is going to still try and skip, which will cause stress on the glass. It's not a good choice. The best option is to put as little stress as you can on the tank. Not to mention, you WILL not get a perfect cut making a hole in wood, and if somehow you did, your going to rub the diamond edge on wood. Again, it's a bad idea and IMHO will not work out with favorable results over the other methods mentioned.

To each their own! But IMHO if you cant get a perfect cut in the wood with a holesaw, you have no business drilling the glass.
When I don't feel like balancing the tank under the press I use a guide. Glass-holes.com includes an MDF guide with their kits.
If you set the guide on top of the putty ring the diamond tips will not be rubbing on the wood, it works great!

I should be around Sunday if u want moral support(lol)
You just have to remember your drilling glass
And what no one said is sometimes they DO crack
You have to keep that in mind
Are you willing to take that chance that if for some reason it does are you willing to live with that
Sometime it safer to just take the easy road and hang a return pipe over the tank
Here's my nano I drilled a few months back

Thanks Jason. If you want you could pm me your cell or something so i can get a hold of you to make plans. We can share war stories. Local 134 here.

Yes i understand that sometimes they just crack. I am willing to take the risk. I feel safer drilling the tank than hanging returns over the side. Id be afraid they would fall off and spray water all over the place.
