Help me turn this into a refugium!

Hi I piked up this oceanic 75 sump off Craigslist i want to see if i can turn this into a refugium??

And here's the kicker it was plumbed for a external pump but i would rather have it in sump

i also plan on putting my aquaclear remora on it by extending the hosing and having the skimmer hang on outside of sump?
 
That's one odd sump...but with good creativity and patience you can make this sump work as a fuge. I would remove those black small baffles, if you can. I would put one of those next to the drain to act as a wall to prevent water coming from the tank disturbing the sand of the refugium. I would use that hole front area to build the refugium with mangroves. That big center baffle can act as a surface skim. You can hide other pumps for reactors, skimmers, heater in that that center area.
 
I actually kinda like the design of the sump. the little center chamber for the drain, and then fill the second chamber with a little live rock rubble at the bottom then some chaeto. I also like the external pump idea because it saves a lot of space inside. all-in-all pretty cool sump
 
Tru but as i look at that back part were the braces are dented at the top its making me think twice i may just go buy a 20g and move everything over ? Man i know i only paid 110 fort sump 2 yr old mag 5 and an overflow box but i got ripped off! Overflow box has cracks and the sump has those dents in the braces then the kid tells me when I noticed that he never checked it for leaks and purchased it when it was running from previous owner!
 
O ya he also made a big deal about the plumbing being expensive and thats y he wanted 110 but than all he includes is a rubber hose and decides that i may not want the PVC and leaves it at home

Lol ya pretty much . I mean so far the only thing worth it is the pump well see if that lasts u think i should just go buy another 20 gallon and transfer everything
 
that sucks man i hate when people r shady especially in this hobby where it could end up costing alot of money
 
Do a leak test and see if you have a usable sump? If so, you can definitely convert part of that into a chaeto growing area without any problem. I wish my pump was external, lol, less heat added to the system! I guess internal is better during the winter here though....
 
Well, as for leaks, the only way to find out is to fill it - do you have a garage or somewhere outside where you can fill it and leave it for a bit? Umm, sealing and connecting plumbing is definitely outside my limited pool of knowledge, but I'm sure someone can walk you through that :)

unfortunately i live in a apartment lol ill fill it to the brim in my bath tub and see what happens
 
Whatever you end up doing, if you want a fuge full of sand, algae, and rubble, I'm cleaning mine out. If you can get here with a bucket, it's yours. :)
