I had plumbed it work a filter sock in mind but haven't added one yet. I can always take the extension off when I add the sock. I can't deal with gurgling all day. LOLbefore I was running a filter sock my drain was a few inches below the waterline, it was pretty quietish. I have a glass-holes.com overflow and once all the piping was coated in fishtank slime it quieted down a bit as well
Still gurgles under water if the flow in drain isnt smooth different kinda gurgle but still a gurgle lol . Like i said if u can angle that part on the end of dursal it helps smooth out the flow like a waterfall then u can try under the water or filter sock to silence it more . Becareful with filter socks if u go that route buy a bunch and replace often they can become a nitrate factory and wipe out your tank . I had same gurgle issue on a tank before and was able to get it pretty silent buy angleing the end and adjusting that tube that sticks out also swapped the regular hose for that ribbed stuff cause im to lazy to hard plumb tanks lolI didn't slow the pump down because of the noise. I only slowed it down because it was emptying the sump faster than the drain was supplying. I was originally asking if I should increase the drain (1") and by how much. I am going to extend the drain so that it's in the water (in the sump) as opposed to at the water line (which is what's causing the gurgling). I'm thinking that will work.

i hear that, my first tank did not have a sump, so i had no idea about the noise issues. when i first plugged this one in i was about too ccall it quits immediately.
