I wanted to get a pic up so I can get suggestions on stocking. All of my numbers are looking good and my CUC has done an excellent job in controlling algae. My cycle seemed to go really fast but by buddy gave me a small frogspawn on 12/4 and it seems to be doing great.

I also had a couple of hitchhikers.

Sadly, the cryptoplax did not make it.

I inadvertently stumbled into all of this with great timing as I think I am ready to start adding a few things just in time for the party tomorrow night. I want one fish that will be good with a pair of clowns (Herbiequeen gets to pick) and totally reef safe (probably no more than three fish ever) and I want various frags or various type, but my ultimate goal is to keep everything in a very miniature scale with as much variety as possible. Please let the ideas flow if you are so inclined. Thanks for all of the guidance (direct and/or indirect) and I look forward to meeting many of you tomorrow. :meeting:

I see nobody offered you any help before the party. I see from your other posts that you made it to the party, and made some purchases. I hope you enjoyed yourself.

How long has your tank been running? How are your new additions doing?

Thanks. I know everything got crazy on here before the party (Which was awesome). I picked up 6 frags (Will post pics later because I didn't get names on all of them) a pepermint shrimp and a yasha goby at the party. At least I know I HAD a yasha goby. I saw it once after acclimating it and have not seen it since.

3 (a juvenile ocelaris pair went in about a week ago and they are looking great). I know I am moving pretty fast, but I'm done on fish (as long as the goby turns up eventually) and I definitely saw the spike in my numbers as I moved through the cycle, it just happened really fast. I didn't really trust it so i've tested almost every day. I also grabbed the API reef kit a few days ago (I was only using marine master before) and the numbers are really good (I am surprised). I also started running purigen in my filter just to be sure. The Goby wouldn't be more sensitive than the clowns, would it? I've read several threads about missing gobys, but I am worried nonetheless. In any case, I am done for a while and looking forward to watching some of this stuff grow. I'll post an "after" pic tonight.
Here is one from my phone of my frogspawn last night (The mouth extended a tiny coil of white spiral and it extruded a wispy pink thread of material. Gould not get a pic of it, but am assuming it was spawn of some sort ((which I am taking as a good sign unless one of you tells me it was barfing its' guts out))).
This was just cool because of the green.

I really do appreciate any and all guidance that you have/will all provide.

ordered BRS 5 state plus RO/DI today. They seem to be about 50 buck less than any other similar set up and everything is included. Also, as a temporary desparate solution, I will be placing a will call order from Aquacave for the JBJ fuge light and JBJ nano skimmer. I need to get a handle on this algae (pretty sure it is mostly HA). My phosphates are 0, but that is probably because the algae is using it, right?
How does a GFO reactor attach to the system? Can you just pump water out of the aquarium and through the reactor and back into the tank all in-line, or does it need to be done in a fuge or sump or something? My tank sits on my bar and the wall behind it is just drywall separating my finished/unfinished sides of my basement. I can run tubes and cords through the wall (all of the power already goes through one), but I only have 2.5 inches between the tank and the wall and my wife probably would't like me extending the hole beyond the profile of the tank). I don't think I have room for the eshopps nano HOB outflow box (or something like it) and I am just not sure how to get water out of and back into my DT. I have a full and ready 29g tank in the unfinished room, but am really unsure about connecting them and I know doing that wrong could be very bad. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. I got a reactor installed with Phosban and charcoal. Fuge light is on and chaeto tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

just installed my MP10. I sort of understand the draw with these things now. It's something to fiddle with while you are waiting for HA to subside! Speaking of HA: How long can I go lights out with a birdsnest frag (also have a ricordia, candy/trumpet, and frogspawn)? I've got an unintentional planted tank going here and am getting pretty frustrated.

Great to hear on the Mp10! I love mine too. But i believe max is three days for SPS, any more and things start going south.

You have to find the source of the problem , usually you get hair algae due to phosphate and nitrate. Are you feeding your fish to much? How about water changes , how often? Turning your lights will only help temporarily and in a few days it will all grow back

I was definitely overfeeding which I have corrected and I have installed a reactor running charcoal and phosban as well as the light on my filter basket with macro in it (basket is sponge to macro to purigen bag). I am doing water changes at least every week (been meaning to ask if too many water changes can be bad or if I should go every 3 days or something). The water is now produced by my RO/DI but was from MCF before, so I don't think that was the problem. I ordered a UV sterilizer today that is basically a drop in for the nanocube. For livestock I have a lawnmower blenny (he is soooo fat), a yasha goby (never see him) 2 juvenile ocellaris (is it the male or female that bites me every time I put my hand in?), 2 small emerald crabs, 6 astrela snails, 6 mexican turbos, 6 margharita turbos and about 15 hermits. I also have 6 various frags that are all doing really well. My numbers are perfect, but I know that may be a result of the HA consuming phosphate. I have not been able to do manual removal as much as I should because of a rookie rock layout. The mexican turbos leave completely clean tracks and the blenny is working hard, but I am just not sure if it is all working.

The other potential culprit I will throw out there is the macro algae I am running. It is definitely not Chaeto. I had asked at a MCF and Sho Tank for Chaeto, but they don't carry it. The guy at Sho Tank gave me a handfull of a diverse mix from his own fuge tank for his whole shop (very nice of him). I am thinking that the fuge light/media basket in my tank may not be ideal for this mix and potential rot there may be adding to the problem. Keep in mind that this bloom was going full force before I added any of these corrective measures. it really started right after I added fish and waaaay overfed them (one of the clowns was sick and I only know FW). I appreciate any ideas you may have, but I am thinking probably time and picking at it is about all I can do now.

I think you are doing all the right things now, the carbon, phosban and chaeto. I would do water changes every week , you should also try to syphon your sand due to the the fact that you were over feeding and if any food is traped somewhere in the sand it will create a lot of nitrate which is causing algae . A couple years ago I had a 180 gal and it had algae everywhere and I mean everywhere , I would pick at it every couple days and i would take rocks out and scrub them with a brush and it would come back no matter what. The problem didn't go way till I fixed my phosphate & nitrate source . My problem was my DSB , once I removed it , the HA was gone

my clowns

HA was 10 times worse (if you can believe it). I am very happy with the mp10 and the octopus reactor seems to be doing its job as well (I also quite overfeeding). I have ordered a UV filter that goes inline on the return and I am curious if anyone has used this one:

I am posting this video because some day I will post be able to post the "after" version and be proud :marchmellow:
