Herbieace's "Frankenfrag-Tank"

Think of like a capital H with a valve on the bottom leg leading to the fuge. This way all the excess flow from that drain doesn't backup and force the other drain to work harder, and possibly cut back excess drain noise.

I'd post up a ton of threads about the people that have not had problems, but, oh yea, they haven't had a problem to post up about it. 2 of the 3 links you provided were of snails finding their way into a pump, the one with the iwaki regarding a hermit seems pretty sketchy to me as well, considering how an external pump is typically plumbed.

You can keep laying it out there however you want, and posting up random fluke incidences, the mass majority will still see no issue with keeping a few inverts in a fuge to keep it clean, and will never experience any problems in choosing to do so.

Herbie, if you have any remote doubts about it, just run an eggcrate fence across the fuge baffle to block any potential (and highly unlikely) escape attempts. My bets are your more likely to have a fish being temporarily held in the fuge jump the baffle than a hermit getting over it.

Simmer... people have their opinions... And several on here have stated just the issue you're saying is unlikely.
And it is unlikely, however, it does happen.

So I think I am going to want another drain on this so I will be drilling. Anyone up north here have a 1.5inch glass saw handy?

I'm basically copying the sparky-via-fishbeard sump design as well. I have a nice big sheet of 1/4 inch acrylic that I got in my original deal. Can I cut that on my table saw?

I have a 1.5 glassbit and a jig too! as for the acrylic you can use the table saw but you need to make sure you have a good blade any dull or old one may cause too much heat and screw up your cuts. I have also used a jig saw but my lines were not straight!

Seriously. It's always an argument from him and drama starter. I'm glad I'm not crazy and people agree with me on this issue. Better be safe than sorry. Doesn't matter if its a hermit or a snail. Shell + impeller = toast.

Let's see if this gets deleted too....

Thanks Red, but I think I'm just going to order one. I need the other bulkhead anyway (will probably get a matching set). I really appreciate the offer though. Thanks for the advice on the saw as well.

The egg crate is a GREAT idea~! Herbie I have a sheet of that too I am willing to part with! Pretty easy to work with! PM me if intrested.

I have everything but the tank and acrylic and could very quickly put that sump together for ya, you know, if you wanted to travel a little to drop the stuff off ;-)

Going to go OT for a sec here Herbieace and I apologize. Im extremely upset with some of you guys on this thread b/c you guys are bickering over bs. We just found out yesterday that one of our mods has been dx with a terminal illness and here you guys are arguing over something so small. Relax and enjoy your fish tank, your life and stop sweating the small stuff.

Thanks Red, but I picked up a sheet at HD a while back to play around with. .

LOL, trust me beard, I already mapped out where streamwood is and you are just out of spousally acceptable range for normal daily activities. Besides, I really love this sort of project (especially when there is so much to learn and so many differing opinions).

Who knew sump design could be so polarizing? (how many people would know what sump design even means) I love this hobby, and I love all of my ChicagoReef brothers and sisters. At the end of the day, we all have one wet arm.

Things will get deleted when people "stir the pot" and things run amuck. If a couple members disagree about something, fine...let it rest and move on. The Op probably appreciates multiple opinions but doesn't need arguments cluttering up his build thread.

Why not have your return fill your fuge? Your drawing looks like my sump.. My sump never stops while doing WC also :D I know use mesh vs what you see in the picture. Works for me..

Also if a CUC is added... Make sure that it can't go through the egg crate. So your CUC will have to be adults IMO.. LOL!!!

I set up a tank build with the fuge fed off the return pump. It just seems more efficient to let gravity feed the fuge from the drain. This way water is fed directly from the display instead of turning into a closed loop system to feed the fuge. You can use a smaller return pump not having to split flow to keep the fuge fed. I'm not sure other than the pump if one way is any better. An overhead fuge fed by a small pump would be best so gravity would feed pods back to the display instead of them going thru a blender on the way back up to the display.

do you mean like crafting mesh instead of egg crate?
