How can you test you rock and sand for phosphates? or do you mean just check the water for phophates?

Is your tank getting direct or lots of sunlight from your window?

sometimes yes and no but I never noticed the difference with the sunlight. I still get algae with the window shades closed.

Do you have to keep the water at 78 degrees? or can it just sit in room temp? im guessing at 78 degrees right?

6 months did u use dry or cycled rock already dry sand or live sand ? sounds like u tank is still cycleing and rock is is leaking phos run gfo and get a sea hair if its hair algae

The goal is to see if the measurements for phosphate in teh clean salt water rises...and how much. You don't need to measure the temp. If it makes you feel better, you can use ziploc bags instead of cups and drop them both in the sump to maintain your tank's temp for the tests.

I bought live rock and live sand from a store, I have very little hair alage, only some on a frag i bought.
