Is this normal?

I'm thinking of getting the digital aquatics Reefkeeper float switch kit. Do I need the dual float or the single float? Also, I'm wondering how do I set it up to my rkl? I have the pc4 that has 2 items plugged in already. The temp probe and the main head unit. There are no other ports to plug into. Should I get a phone jack splitter to make another spot to plug it into?

Yes that would work. U can get the dual float switch to make it more fail safe also. U would also need and aqualifter pump to pump in the water to ur system.

Ryan, if you're going to have a controller anyway, stick with the DA one. Having everything attached to your main system is definitely a good idea.

I have an rkl, looked and seen that they have ato but haven't looked I depth and priced. Probly should because this evaporation everyday is sucking.

As far as your top off, maybe I can check it out sometime and see how it works for you.

Use the rkl. It is very inexpensive to buy the float switch and connect it to the rkl as opposed to buying a stand-alone jbj. That's what I did.

On a side note. Anyone using or thinking of using any type of float switch should regularly clean it. They can get gunked up and stick in the "on" position. Not sure if this was what what yogo and herbie were talking about but it is a fairly common problem with float valves. It's happened to me twice, luckily never overflowed my sump.

I only have one float switch, if I had a 2nd one it could be used as an "off" switch.

Why not set a timer to stay on for 30sec or more when activated and repeat every hour if activated .. You can always use a second switch to control ATO pump if in case of overfill

So many things can be done with a RK :D. Love it!!

Thanks all I do believe I'm getting th DA one. Emisisbthanks for that link. I do probly need that, I can't just get a phone line splitter :( lol wish it could b that easy.

Sooooo I'll need a pump to pump the ro out of a container. What would be a good pump?

Tom's aqua lifter. It's pretty much the standard for this application. Pretty cheap, and it has enough flow to do a steady stream, cause you don't want anything too strong.

Ryan, the box your temp and pH probe go into should have the plug ins for the switches...

I might stand corrected but in his post he has just a RKL which doesnt come with those. I believe that is only on the SL1 or 2. Please correct me if Im wrong, I have 2 RKL and there were no provisions for "switches" although my ALC's have them.

I also add that DA's product descriptions and support suck, lack of both as far as what is needed to do what with and so on. That is where a search engine and forums such as this help the most.

Mine has the head unit. Pc4. And temp prob. The pc4 is plugged into the wall. The head unit and the temp prob is plugged into the pc4. I'm not home but if I remember right those two being plugged in leave no more spots to plug in an ato. I'd have to get a sl1 as bambam has asked. :( anyone have an sl1 for sale? And if I had the sl1 that would give me the correct spots for an ato and if I wanted to buy another device?

As far as da support, I've had to be in touch with them once. Because the Sid I had was old and needed to be updated. He explained that to me and helped me with info to send it in. So far no issues with them, but it's still early in my relationship with them so time will tell.

I have the SL1 and gives me two.. This will also give you the option to get a PH probe.

I control my 75gal and a 10gal DT to topoff.

The PH probe will also help control Kalk ATO to avoid 8.5 levels if set

+1
Invest in the SL1 and get the Ph probe then run the float switch into it...that's the way to go.

:) that will come soon. I don't use kalk or any other additives. Just ro water and water changes. Ato with ro first then next step is venturing my way into additives.
