Jbj ato

Looking at "biting the bullet" and adding a JBJ ATO Unit to my BRS order since I'll probably end up getting one eventually. JBJ appears to be one of the most popular and reasonably priced compared to other units.

Thoughts? Experiences? Other ATO Units? I would also still need a pump for the JBJ ATO from BRS correct?

Thx!

Do you have a controller for your reef? It can do the same thing as the JBJ with nothing more than a cheap float switch kit or manual timers.

An RKL Basic is $120 ... and all id need is a float switch and timer? no extra pump? verses $80 JBJ ATO...?

think of the peace of mind the controller adds, no heater failures cooking yur tank..... thats worth 120$ right there. plus you can get rid of the timers for your lights if thats wat u use

Haha, apparently I got everyone's attention - Please explain George... Obviously don't have endless money to burn but a RKL would be nice for its obvious features, but mainly want to deal w/ the ATO issue right now.

Lets chat real quick about the feasibility of a RLK unit/model for me...
Lighting plug-wise, I have 2 MH and then VHOs = total 3 plugs, plus possibly adding some moonlights later. All of those I can just put on Timers and pay $0
Pumps/Powerheads - Will have 2 JBJ pumps on a duo wavemaker (takes care of the RLK wavemaker option) and 2 pumps constanlty on.
PH probe/readout: yes would be nice, but w/ fuge light on shouldnt my Ph remain pretty stable regardless?
Temp probe: again nice, but have a digital therometer already (just dont have the 'alarm' feature)
ATO - would still need the float switch, etc.

But then I would love another new 'toy'... :D

Like said, $120 for RKL, $20 for float switch kit, $12 for aqualifter.

Under $160 you have digital light timers, a heater controller and an ATO. And that's all "new" prices.

Not sure what more to explain, but WELL worth the money.

Don't get so fancy, the wavemaker feature on the Rkl sucks especially with cheap pumps.

All your MH plugs can come off one outlet, and you will have power loss protection (15 minute lockout for bulb safety) your vho on another outlet for dawn/dusk. Your heater on a 3rd outlet and your ATO on the 4th. No need for an additional $90 powerbar.

LOL, George, that's like saying "Get a box, put some magnets and metal in it and then program it, boom; you have a PC".

#%!@ George lol, you may just be talking me into this :)

Alright... but with the Basic RKL can I later add such things as a Ph Probe, etc?
As far as the float switch... this one: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalog/product/view/id/2013/
what about the aqualifter?

Obviously IF i ever decide to upgrade to LEDs, this unit would work great as well, correct? (can program sunrise/sunsets, etc)
