Jrpark22000 2.2g DeepBlue

looks great dude im jeally

No need to be, get yourself a DeepBlue and join the fun!

Looks awesome josh! Looks like your display had a baby!

Thanks Scott, overfiltered just like my display too:toilet:

My thought behind the FragClub growout is to improve my skills. I've mirrored as much of my display in this small tank as possible. I can apply what I learn here to the display and have a reasonable expectation of getting similar results, but time may prove otherwise.

An FYI for anyone following the thread.

!!Caution!! The Cobalt Neo-therm 25w is not calibtated correctly. I thought the tank felt a bit warm for the 78 I had the heater set to. Well, it was 80.5 when I tested with a certified thermometer. There is plenty of flow around the heater as it is in the pump intake area of the HOB. It might be due to the small water volume, but the heater is rated up to 6 gallons.

That's odd mine is pretty accurate right at 77.6 my Apex probe and I also used a Mercury Thermemeter and got about 77 also just about or close to 78

As with all electronics I expected some variance, but I did not expect 2.5" too low. If someone set it at 80, 82.5 might be a bit too much for some coral.

Update on the build; I received and installed the Tunze nano ATO. It both functions well and has minimal visual impact as compared to a jbj ato. I also received the apex temp and pH probes and got them installed. I'm still waiting for my AWC heads to arrive so I can order the tubing and water containers.

For a note, I'm not competing in the contest. I am playing along with the group for fun. I travel for work and can be gone 3 or 4 weeks at a time. There is no way I could maintain water quality in such a small tank while being away for such a long period without a controller to help. I already burden my wife enough with my big reef while I am traveling.

It's in my basement and though I've never had water, you never know when will be the first time. Without wheels I'd be screwed.

That is my QT. 45 cube, that I can plumb into my display when not in use. I only do so if after QT I break the entire system down and sanitize with bleach to prevent contamination.

Cycling update; Interestingly enough the cycled K1 is better than I thought. I've been adding a few spectrum pellets every couple days. Both to feed the amphipods, bristle worms and such, as well as to check for any testable ammonia. There has been no ammonia and I have noticed a healthy amount of bacteria colonizing the glass. I’m planning on stocking the tank with a blue coral banded shrimp that I am still trying to source locally. This will add some bio-load to the tank so I’m planning on keeping the K1 running for first grow out. I’ll plan my water changes around keeping some nitrates present.

I was also able to get the lower cabinet built over the weekend and have the AWC jugs on order. Once I get them setup and my ATO tank built, I’ll update with some photos.

I have plans to pickup the frag Tuesday and get the growout started. Until then, an update on the equipment.

The cabinet is mostly built and I received the ATO and AWC jugs, but the actual jug dimensions vary from what was listed on cole parmer. I'm waiting acrylic sheet to be delivered so I can custom make my ATO tank to fit into the remaining space, middle shelf. I also had to remove the foam pad that comes glued under the tank. Due to the HOB, the wieght was not even on the foam causing the back to compress more than the front. The tank was slanted by a 1/4" or more.

The AC70 has seen a couple modifications to keep micro bubbles from the display. I added a blue filter pad and air gap. The filter pad also acts like a filter sock helping with detritus.

For an algea mag I modified a TLF MagFox I had laying around. The added handle for the magent is to reach inbetween the HOB and tank.

Lastly a picture of the tunze nano ATO, pretty slick and so small. I'm impressed on how acurate it keeps the water level.

It was a quick 5 minute fab from scrape acrylic. It'd be super easy to make you one. If your in japan or naperville we can meet, or we can arrange shipping.

I was able to pickup my new tank invert from aquatica tonight. Cheers to Mario for the special order.

Blue-legged yellow coral banded shrimp - Stenopus cyanoscelis

I wanted the smaller species (Stenopus tenuirostris), but this one has a max of 2" in length as compared to 3" of a normal CB shrimp. I also picked up my growout frag from Scotty last night. I'm still waiting for it to open fully before I post a picture.

Like a few others, my zoas tend to spend a lot of time closed. The bigger poly is open this morning, but I have yet to see the small polyp open so far.

Parameters over the last week

Nitrates undetectable
Ammonia undetectable
pH 7.68-7.92
Temp 77.4-79
ALK 7
CA 500
Salinty 52.1-53.5ms (1.025-1.026)
PAR 50 (due to 20K LED reading is probably up to 20% lower than actual)

Guys they were under low/medium light with medium flow.

It's weird bc they were all open for me and when Scotty picked then up. If there are any issues. I have quiet a few more. Just let me know and Scotty and I will work out arrangements.

Thank you for the offer Jorge. Do you have an estimate of the PAR they were under and what lighting type? Mine are under a medium flow. Small tube worm HHers move in the current but are fully extended. I'll tuck the zoas into the base rock to lower flow around around them.
