just got an infraction on RC for mentioning "midwest saltwater" on a thread

I think I got u all beat. I got an infraction for "Not Smart". That's what my infraction reasoning was.

Then I got another one when I posted a copy of it on a thread for everyone to see.

They are greedy there. When Dino found out I worked at A LFS part time he banned me from all FS and FT threads until I was willing to sponsor him. I'm sorry but I can't make a LFS sponsor ur forum as a PT employee of 2 weeks.
 
No they get their own little fiefdom to exercise power in, lots of mods take on that role in the popular forums. And forums are big money when they are popular, RC is probably easily pulling in over 6 figures and I doubt anyone but the owner gets a taste.

Im not even a member there I just browse through there for info. I tried to sign up once before I found this site but when I logged on after I signed up it said I was banned not sure why as I didn't even have a chance to post. Either way I was turned off on that site from that moment on

Looking at domain registry it has John Link listed as owner of the domain http://whois.domaintools.com/reefcentral.com (almost certainly the owner who is getting the cash, you never give anyone power over your domain name if you want to keep it running too easy to xfer it out of their control)


I ran a popular IT forum for a company that was doing 1.4 million visitors a month unique around 5 Million page views, and we were pulling in 30K a month in revenue between adsense & sponsors, we were paying 5K in hosting so netting 25K, the mods worked for free and the users generated all the content :) They would do "user of the month" and throw them like a $500 prize but it was a good stream of income. As a side note no one really knew the IT company owned the forum, it was held under a different LLC.

Did you log in at work or somewhere public. when they ban, they ban the IP address too. so if someone got banned using that IP address and you just happen to log into the iste using that same IP address, they ban your username.
 
After 20,000 posts there, I had enough. I got an apology from them too but they said to save face, I'd still have to be banned for 30 days. That was over a year ago. I'll never go back.

That is a dumb move on their end. Banning by IP can end up blocking a lot of users they would want to access their site. I moderate on a forum and we are told explicitly NEVER to ban by IP...
 
I'm over here now. Ohhhhhhhh. Hickory dickory dock. Rc can...my..... You get the idea. I was sent a pm by a mod. I opened it while I was driving. I saw it was long so I closed it for later ( when I was not driving). Stoped, looked. New message said I was band for reading the first pm and not responding to it. Before that, they said I was commercial. Go figure ;) I would love a few minutes with Jeff. Toolbag

Seems people are getting wacked now on RC for crazy things ..

Is it easy to change an IP address?

Most routers allow you to change your ip address very easily (not directly of course as your ip is assigned by your service provider). You just have to google it. Most common way is changing your routers mac address.

I have a bunch of multis on rc. I went threw over 20 accounts advertising cr lol.

You can also use proxy websites. Some are safe, some arent.

Also your phone constantly changes ip address so just google whatsmyip and make sure you dont have an already banned account on that address (from previously using your phone).
