Larger Zoa Colonies...Im wondering what I am doing wrong...

I'm not sure how often you dose these, but if you only change water every two weeks then you are building those concentrations to a point and then reducing them by 25% or so every time you do a WC. I'm just thinking you might be causing a parameter change. Since you are going skimmerless, there is probably a lot building up in there over 10 days-2 weeks. Just my .02

I see what your saying...I will def be bringing down my WC percentage, I dose daily...its what my LFS has recommended and what the Kent products instruct...

Just amazing how things work as a community and CR :thumbup:

Glad you made this thread to figure out what was going on.

I would imagine they assume you are skimming. I ran skimmerless for about 4 months and it is possible, but only water changes can replace the action of skimming. If you start doing 10% weekly you might see an overall improvement.

I'll go out on a limb and say you would recommend me going out and finding a skimmer for this little guy huh? LFS actually sold me my whole setup...so they know what I'm working with...but they also like seeing those $$

LOL, it a good thing you thought to ask if he was skimming Dre! Imagine if he just started dropping a spoonful of vit c in there without that detail being discussed!
good luck Salty. . .

Yeah, carbon dosing is no joke... Could do more harm than good IMO

So I guess my last question (for now) is what would be a good skimmer that I can put on my biocube? I really dont want anything too gaudy hanging all over it, but on the same token I'm not planning on putting a sump on this.

A peak at what I am working with:View attachment 6344

What are your suggestions??

:aqua: Uh oh, yellow tang in a biocube.

HAHAHA I heard about the Tang police.... Dont worry your little hearts, the 220g that is almost finished in the next room is where he will reside very soon...

I have a problem like his in my five gallon set up. I got a frag of orange bam bams that only had four polyps on it. Within two weeks I had 14 polyps. Then out of no were they began to close up and not open so ilk moved them to my nano cube and then started opening back up but only grew one polyp in five months. Any zoos I put in the five gallon grow like crazy at first then out of no were things get bad and u have to move them. My five gallon is a petco bought give gallon bow front plastic tank . I stripped out the hood and have a total of 28 3 watt leds all ran at 350 ma overr kill but being so close to the water I needed better spread I first tried it with 12 . I have 12 royal blues 12 whites ,and double duty as high noon and moon lights 2 blue and 2uv. Oh and the two 3 watters i have on the hob filter I turned into a fuge. No skimmer but a do change a gallon water change every week . I do not dose the tank with anything except to buffer the ph if needed during the winter months when co2 levels are higher in the tank from the house being closed up. But even to help with this my water change water is premixed and agitated and airated for a week before use with an air line from outside.
