i am making the move from freshwater to salt and am going to be setting up a reef tank. i have a pretty good handle on what i need to do as far as set up except the lighting? trying to keep energy costs down and was wondering on an 80gal tank how limited would i be with this light. http://www.aquatraders.com/EVO-Quad-48-LED-Reef-Bright-p/56237.htm would i have to stay with just mushrooms and polyps? would like a Rose Bulb Anemone would i be able to have that with this light any info would really help thanks

Ive never seen those used in person only advice id give u is think about the future of u tank e u gonna want more light needing corals. If so u might want to get a reef capable fixture to save u money on up gradeing later. I bought dimmable fixtures on ebay for about 200 each if u dont care about dimmable ive seen as low as 145$ just a thought . Ive wasted so much money on mind changes lol

idk ive been torn bc aqua traders has those and the there t-5s r cheap to im leaning more toward the t-5s but i dont want to buy something and then have to go out and replace bc its a pos have u used those t-5? any feed back is greatly appreciated

Go with a china ebay fixture or PAR38s. Way cheaper than T5s over lifetime (for both energy and bulb replacement costs), and the coloring is great. I've seen both in person, and you can't go wrong. What are the dimensions of the tank?

I was using four Par38s from Coral Compulsion on my 55G. 12" apart and 12" off the water. They came with a three year warranty.

I'm still using the bulbs; they're great for growth. I moved and had to switch tanks. I have the three bulbs over a 45G (36" width) and one bulb over a 10G.

lol, not to plug what I'm selling, but I'm taking down my 55 tank and selling 2 Ecoxotic Panorama fixtures. Check out my build thread and look them up. Prices are listed on my FS Equipment thread.

Awesome lights, I've had AMAZING growth, just need to save money for a house. The coloration is incredible too.

What I'm selling is list at $1040 and I'm asking $750.

thats a little more than i want to spend.

do u think in can use 3 of those par 38s on a 55?

i did want a rose bulb anemone do u think that setup could put out enough for that ive heard u should only use MH

well im useing two ebay led dimmables that were little under 400 for both and keeping sps with great color and amazing growth. just saying dont need fancy expensive stuff but dont know how much the par 38 cost but maybe for little more u wont have to spend even more to upgrade if u just buy strong enough lights to begin with .

i would only be spending a little more than 400 but saving 100watts of power with the par38s with 2 120w lights im not saving any power over the t-5s

I have rbtas in my tank. The Par38s should be fine for what you want. The light spread is 18" if I remember correctly. Ask Coral Compulsion directly if you need more specific info. Or check out good website to see the color combos that are available.
