i am thinking about going leds

so just wondering if this kit would give me enough par to grow sps (highest requirement sps)

http://www.rapidled.com/8-x-solderless-triple-puck-kit-with-dimmable-drivers/

this would be hung or mounted over a tank of 24x12 size ..

also what kind of look would i be getting with 1 XP-G Cool White LED, 1 XP-E Royal Blue LED, and 1 XP-E Blue LED in each puck ??

would it look all uniform ?? or would there be hot spots from this one ??

If you want uniform you could get two PAR38 bulbs. Or one Kessil pendant. Or 1 18" Ecoxotic Panorama Pro LED fixture.

Never seen a rapid in person, but I've seen the others, and they are INCREDIBLE. The Kessil blue tuna is one of the best colored cannons I've ever seen too.

That would not cover your tank,6''x9'' you would need 2 of those. 2:1 is insanely blue,i did this before and had issues with sps not thriving. Contact prestige-led,he's local and won't sell you anything you don't need. Best customer service i've experienced.

Oh come on, seriously? You can add moonlights to your tank for under $20, even less than that if you shop around. Moonlights are a weak excuse of a deal breaker for any quality light fixture.

Search on the big auction site by Led Fixture, there are too many good led fixture. I bought one of them (I don't know they are Cree or not) for my frag tank (24 x 24 x 12). All the zoas and some the SPS are growing very well. You are welcome to check out my main and frag tanks.
The one you post is too much and not enough to cover all area.

Here picture of the tank when start.

This actually is also very true :)

George would you care to elaborate on this? Where can you find moonlights for under$20? How can they be added? To any light? Always been a pet peeve of mine that the best brands never incorporate moonlight's.

They are available everywhere. One company sells a tiny module and power supply, and you can buy additional modules to chain them for larger tanks, but one is plenty for a small tank.

I build my own DIY ones with the RapidLed 4x moonlight kit for $18, the 4x kit is more than enough moonlight for my 180!

Also there are several inexpensive, and some even waterproof options on eBay. I found a 6' long strip for like $19 shipped. Trackfast has a shorter strip of the same on his tank and loves it.

Moonlights are incredibly inexpensive and there is a style out there that fits everyone's needs.

Agree with george, moonlights are not a neccesity,i don't use moonlights in all my units as there is no real need for them. They are an inexpensive addition to any light fixture out there.

Ok so George for instance the rapid led moonlight kit to what and how do you mount them? Sorry for being confused I'm not trying to rub anyone the wrong way.

I do understand that moon lights are not a necessity but more for astetics. (SP?) But I like them and I'd like to add them to the wife's tank and any future tanks. I appreciate the help.

The RapidLED kit, all you need to provide is the wire, solder, and soldering iron to put together, it's incredibly simple. It comes with the double sided adhesive pads so you can just stick them to a metal surface. They do not get anywhere near as hot as 3w LEDs so true heatsink and fans are not necessary.

i got those 9 dollar led modules from foster and smith and they are wonterfull .. you can stick them anywhere and connect them in series also //
