Corals prefer pitch black at night. Moonlights are detrimental (especially very strong ones). Sps at least.

Personally I don't see that being possible since in nature there is moonlight is there not? Maybe I'm wrong.

Scientifically, I do not think so. Just after a whole bunch of research. It might be out there though. A study might be out there, but it worked well for me so I stopped researching. It is still widely debatable as many things in this hobby. The idea stems from the fact that the night led's we often use are usually in the blue photosynthetic spectrum and are usually way too bright. Not allowing a natural rest period for our photosynthetic animals. The moonlight in nature is nowhere near the moonlights we put on our tanks (ours are much much brighter), let alone the fact that the vast majority of days there is not direct moonlighting on the corals so they actually are in pitch black.
This also comes from the similar theory that acropora have better color and growth from longer periods of nighttime. Even better if its pitch black.

I was skeptical at first, but after trying it out years ago, it seems that pitch black is beneficial as well as a longer period of pitch black. If you research, many people have said it does not take long to notice. For me, I noticed differences in a week. Its kinda like a walk past the tank 'what the hell?!?' moment lol.

now my plans of getting a second nano are thrashed so im gonna upgrade my biocube with the leds instead :(

next question is ..is there anywhere i can get my heat sink drilled ?? to screw in the leds ??

i dont want to have the leds in the hood and like the idea of hanging it over the biocube ..

how i hang it would be next question as i go :D

They sell drilled and tap heatsinks. And just get get and bend sum conduit and u could paint it with rustoleum spray paint.

i know i was looking at rapid led and i cant find 3 watt cree cool white leds ..
