so i got my first nem yesterday. put it up high and good flow. it opened a little. than later at night it was wiggling. i thought it might be pulling out it's foot. today when i woke up. it was gone. i can no find it and there is not pieces from the power head. there is a few places it could have gone and hid. should i just leave all alone and wait for it to come out?

they can be absolutely anywhere wet in your system. check everywhere and asses how much it went through to get there before you try to relocate it. Let it rest if it looks messed up. Nems gotta Nem, so there isn't much you can do anyway. If it died and it's of any size you would probably not have trouble seeing that (cloudy). Good luck. Nems are stressful.

Mine disappeares for days. I ended up finding him inbetween 2 rocks. If the get hungry they will come out.

what about my corals. is it gana take out my tank stinging everything as it explores

My rainbow disappeared for 2 months. Then one day I saw a tiny nem on a rock. It was him! He's nice & big now--about 5" across.

the main reason why nems are hard. in a perfect world you need a well established tank with no corals for the nem to start. once they settle in they don't cruise unless they are perturbed. You would then, arrange your corals around the happy nem. the only thing you can do is try to stay ahead of them and keep everything nem proof if you put them in later. How exactly you achieve a perfect world established tank with no corals in it, I am not sure. They also don't kill absolutely everything they touch. Consistent stinging will lay waste to anything, but nematocysts don't fire for free so they are about like a rattlesnake on the loose. Be cool and it won't be particularly uncool. (move your corals onto a frag rack until Nem is done nemming if you want 0 risk.) Sorry bro, they're awesome because they have a will.

I found it behind rock hiding where I knew when I got it this would happen to me. I took out the leds on the side it is stuck to in hoping to get it to the light. and I also wispper come into the light. but it has not moved yet.

so I gave him crappier light to try and get him out. it opens up in his little hole, but will he stay in the corner hiding even if it is bad for there health? I read the sometimes move for better food.

you're more likely to get him to move by blasting him with a PH. He will go cruising to get out of the high flow. Try something like a koralia nano to start with as you don't want to shred him.

I had read that but will it just go back?

They're not territorial but highly selective. He'll go to the place that suits him best. I had one that split and the clones sat as a pair for over nine months even through my terrible move. A few days ago one went nemming for no reason I can tell. (I think it was a day after I wrote that a nem gotta nem in fact.) He's now perched in a top corner while his bro remains in their original spot. Not exactly the most predictable little dudes, but you gotta love their spunk.

Heh, well said Herbie, they do kinda just do their own thing. So if you encourage him to move with a powerhead, the possibility that he will go back always remains! He may just end up elsewhere as well... It's worth a shot, but if he returns... well, you may be stuck with him there then... Good luck!

the beauty is that if he stays there you can just get a homie for him and that one can't possibly go in exactly the same spot (1cm away is a possibility though:) )
