Where did you get the ventralis anthias? You do know they need subtropical temps.... no higher than 74 degrees.

Hi Eric, yes I know how sensitive this fish are and that they live in cooler waters. When I saw this one for the first time, I turned away and left without buying it. Every week I saw it again, and this fish was getting stronger, bolder and was eating like crazy. It was also kept at 78*F. After still being at the store week six, and doing better than the first time I saw her,I took a chance and got it. If it was going to die because of stress and higher temp. it would be dead by now,but again after 6 weeks it was strong, swimming around with other fish and eating anything frozen you put in tank.My tank temp. right now is around 76*F. Fish is doing great so far.It is swimming out in the open even with bright lights on. I know that doesn't mean s... right now,but I have high hopes for this one. It gets food 3-4 times daily.

That fish looks a lot bigger then the 3 I had... Mine all died within 24hrs of shipping. 1 DOA ... Good luck. They are beautiful fish...

Yeah, mine is about 2in. long and it was bought locally, not shipped,so I had upper hand already since it was conditioned for 6 weeks. It did not endure shipping stress at all. I know I need little luck too. Thanks Jorge.

I love these fish! Pacific has a couple sets of them. I want so bad, but I can't spend yet. UGH!!

I saw them on PIA too,but was too afraid of them being shipped. You better off trying to get one locally, even if you have to wait long time. I got this one at Old Town Aquarium. First one in two years they said.

Not actually true. Although it may be fine, temperature stress takes it toll on the fish after a few months. 2-3 months and they may just die. For long term success lower temps are needed. 76 is much better than 80 mind you so it may be okay there, but 70-74 is ideal. Good luck, and keep us posted. They are beautiful and I plan to get a trio for my new sub-tropical tank.

+1 I bought my harem from PIA. Old town over priced... But they have healthy fish.

$129 for this one looks in line with every online price I looked. Other than that ,yes most of their fish are overpriced. But you can find some great deals there too. For the longest time they had Conspicuous Angelfish at $1999, then $1499, where anywhere else you had to pay $2499 for one.

Def not knocking them. I got my female nahacky that soon turned male for 129... And yes that's a good price. I paid 100 I think each for my female ventralis.

This morning, lights still off. Day three, doing great so far.Ate Rod's food and is showing great colors.

Over the weekend I did some work, scraped the back of my tank of coraline algae. It was hard work, but I think it paid off. Also got 5 Tierra Anthias two weeks ago from Brian at ReefWise. Great store, just recently had a chance to visit. All Anthias are doing great, my Ventralis is going strong too. It is one of the most aggressive feeders in my tank. Not scared at all of bigger fish. Got a little outbreak of bubble algae, but will get two Emerald crabs, they should do the trick in addition to manual removal.

Nice additions mark. I agree with keeping the back free from coraline always makes the foreground pop. Good luck with the bubble algae.
