Matts 8g nano reef

Soooo, I don't have the cube running yet, but I have other news. Basically don't use air freshener stuff near your tank. I had some lobos, birdsnest, mini hammer and some blastos completely die. The birdsnest has zero polyps. The lobos were recessed with skelton showing and some kinda white guts pooring out. The blastos were pink, but turned gray and looked burned. The hammer is simply gone. Idk. Does this sound like an aorosal accident.

No clue but that sucks, sorry to hear. I guess it's no worse than my frag tank set up on my workbench in the garage under a shelf full of car cleaning products, oils, and other various chemicals. One hard bump and uh oh!

Sorry to hear that fishbeard. The contest palys and everything else looks good. I'm gonna do a 50% water change later. This is the first time I've lost anyhing and it sux. I hate throwing dead coral in garbage.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that Matt...it is possible for the tank to become polluted from aerosol sprays. Let me know if it's anything I can do to help.

My girlfriend admitted to spraying fabreeze. I constantly remind her not to. She is sorry, but still upsetting. In any case, I'm transfering tanks and finishing my led project this week. I'm excited.

Doing my water change now. Here's some pics. My pink birdsnest is white. My poncillapora is polypless and my lobos and Zoas are wincing a bit. I did a test and I had a bit of nitrate, but everything else is perfect. 8.2 ph. Alkalinity at 8 dkh. Idk? I'm assuming nitrates are from dying coral.

Since there was about 11 hours in between your 2 pics, I would say it isn't rtn. I would expect more necrosis if it was rtn. When I've had rtn it has wiped out the entire coral in a very short period of time (that's why the "r' stands for rapid.) Also, if the tips are white because your clowns picked off the flesh, then it isn't rtn. RTN will cause your sps to bleach out without any assistance from fish.

Regardless of what caused it, I hope they rebound for you.

Woke up this morning to all white. I took those pics within min of each other. I just forgot to post second pic. It's gone. Lost both birdsnest and this guy. Btw. Temp swing yesterday all the way down to 74 after lights went out. Im sure it was RTN.

Btw. I like how the white skeleton looks from my birdsnest. Despite it having zero polyp extension; can I keep it still. Will it harm or release toxins?

The only thing left is a calcium carbonate skelton. you can keep it as a decoration if you want.

RTN also starts from the base in most cases and works it way to the tips I believe. I have never had RTN start from the tip and work to the base.

It's clearly white... From base. Btw. The night before my tank had a snow storm. Little white particles like salt grain flying around tank. I keep fresh pads so this showed Il quick and was filtered out. Was this my birdsnest RTN. Because when looked yesterday morning it was coompletly polypless. Lol. I still think its an awesome looking dead coral. Most people wouldnt know differently.

I removed it last night. I check water temp at 4 am at 74.6 degrees. With the combo of that my girlfriends careless fabreezing and trace nitrates my sps have parished. Lesson learned. I got these corals as tiny frags free. Oh well. I'm heading to MCF Wednesday to get my 30 gallon some lr. Hopefully this won't happen again.

A bit of an update; everything looks great now. I have a reliable heater now. I finally got out to MCF the other day and bought this killer frogspawn frag and a ric for only $20. I'm gonna start saving for MCF after my lighting is built.
