On Thursday i got my first anemone. When i got home from work on friday it was gone from were i placed him and now i cant find him any were. ive looked all day and just seems to be gone. what should i do? ive heard that if it dies it can posin the tank is this true?

they can hide for awhile while acclimating. how did you acclimate it to your water? did you do a proper drip acclimation? as long as you acclimated right, it might just be hiding. they will move around for awhile, sometimes hide until they find their sweet spot.

yes i did do a drip acclimation. so i sould not be worried, just give it some time. sorry but this is my first reef aquarium so i get a little paranoied about everything and i still have a lot to learn.

Considering they are about 99% water, they can easily slip through a crack & live under/behind/in-between your rocks.

It's amazing how small they can deflate down to. It could be hidden in a little hole in the back of your rockwork. He'll come out again, just be patient.
You did say that this is your first tank... how long has it be up and running?

Mine hides every night to where I can't see him. Freaked me out till I saw him in a hole.. he's there every time.

All you have to do is make sure the anemone can't possibly get sucked into either your overflow or your powerheads. Other than that, there are no worries. They will cruise around until they find the perfect spot with their preferred amount of light and flow. I can almost guarantee you that this spot will be right next to your favorite coral in the tank. That's just how it works....

My Haitian anemone has been circling the rock we put it on for about three months now...It's about soccer ball sized rock and it can go half way around (to the back of the tank) in a workday. Its staying on that rock - which is good, but it usually ends up in the back of the tank!

Thank for all the advice! Still haven't seen him though. There is just so many places for him to hide so I'll just keep my eyes open and I'm sure he will show him self soon. My tank has been running a little over 4 months I know its a little soon to have a bubble tip but all leavel have stabalized,so I figured I would be ok

Well it took 10 days but he finally showed him self!! I guess i just had to be patient like u all said, I had almost forgotten about him and when I got home today there he was in the perfect spot, even better then were I had placed him!!

its ok I havnt seen My anemone since MACI but I do know this is how my other BTA was like when i first got him too and now he just hid today which is the first time in like 7months be patient when they want light they will pop out!!
