as much as i want to take my tank with me, im not sure if the live stock would survive the move taking into consideration it would be on a cold January day

SO what are the suggestions from gurus ?

Option 1 :sell off everything and may be set up again (not sure if i would set it up again after the move)

option 2 : Get them heat packed and move them.. im not sure of this as its gonna be around 12 hr drive with multiple stops taking around 24 hours and then time to set up the tank ..

even if i move in January i guess i have to post everything like now cause no ones gonna roam around on cold December days :(

I'd sell of all the livestock and start over once you are ready again. I had two people I know that attempted things like this and ended up losing almost everything. They also spent tons of time and energy to do it stressed themselves out in the process.

can you get someone to take everything and then ship stuff to you when you get re-established? Honestly, you will be able to re-do everything and put all of your gained expertise into your new system if you completely start over. Trying to move everything that far just seems to much of a pain, and I have to believe that VA will have some good stores once you get there and get everything set up the way you have always wanted it.

:( looks like a partout sale thread soon

too many sad things at the same time. leaving chicago, getting rid of my tank ........ well there should be some pluses

On the plus side, you go down in history here at CR, coined a term of affection after your username. You will always be remembered if you don't come back to visit us!

Keep the items that you know you can reuse ie. skimmers, mag pumps, large heaters. Tank maybe??? This way you can still have a system with out haveing to start all new and just upgrade. Sell the livestock unless you have a great plan to transport your valued items. If I ever moved the only a few of my "must have items are coming with me" Ritters anemone hosted clowns, B/W clams, Wrasse a couple of pounds of LR and LS. Moving is very expensive and you may end up spending your loot on gas and lodgeing. Not to mention a deposit on a new place and utilities. What part of VA you going to? I can recomend a couple of places that will probably be your new LFS.

The VA/DC/MD area has horrible LFS options.

Krishna, if you need me to hold anything that you jsut can't part with to ship later, I can offer some space for a few items.

We're going to miss you.

sorry to hear that u gotta leave bro. but hopefully its for the better.. keep all ur equipments.. and i say sell everything else.. it'll be a hassle to get stuff shipped not unless u can get a deal from some of our lfs hear to ship it to u

Thanks Walt.

would it work if i just keep a few corals and keep it with me in a bucket next to me while driving and in the stopovers as temp would be well around 70-75 all along and then setup a nuvo 8gallon at new place may be ? and for the light they would be with out light like for 2 days but ill hang the kessil and add a heater to that 5 gallon bucket as soon as i step in the home ?

i know moving sps are pointless as they suffocate in their slime but can it be done with zoas, palys and plate corals and rics ? just a thought ?

Good luck on your move...and I agree with the majority, keep the equipment and rocks, and sale the livestock. And when you're ready again, at least you'll have everything to get started again.

Thanks Walt.

i say if u plan to move corals.. it'll be easy moving zoas, shrooms, and leathers.. they should be fine in a bucket with no light for a day.. just make sure the temp is stable with no fluctuations

I think the majority of your LS would do ok with the car ride. The only issue I see is getting your tank up, running and cycled. That's where the problem lies.

Sell the babies and setup shop...then buy new babies once your all settled. You'll be too busy unpacking and getting yourself acclimated. By the time you're settled, the tank should be cycled.
