mp10 or mp40?

Another question, Where do you guys think I should place the 2 mp10s I have for optimal flow with the rockscape I have? I have them set in reef crest anti synced with each other but still playing around with the setting to find the best one for them, especially since I have zoas. Currently, I have them placed on opposite ends of the tank facing each other.

Place then about 6" below water and halfway between your rocks and front glass. And seriously, reef crest is very violent random flow, but spends wayyyy too much time in a low flow range, stick to the lagoon mode, it will work better.

Really, I've never tried lagoon, have you had better luck?

I heard Lagoon mode was more for sofites. I have sps, zoas, clams, and some soft corals so its a nice mix. I am trying it out right now to see how it goes. George, do you have sps in your tank or other high flow demanding corals? If so, how are they doing with the lagoon mode?

I have several monti corals in the upper half of my tank and they get great polyp extension. I'm suggesting lagoon mode because it spends a greater amount of time at a higher flow than reef crest. To compensate you'll need to raise the max output in reef crest and deal with too much flow when they top out during the program. It will all make more sense the more you experiment with them.

NTE and TS ecosmart modes really need the 3rd pump to be effective. I usually run NTE mode at max output for 4-6 hours once a week to stir detritus up in the tank, otherwise I really can't comment until I score a great deal on a 3rd 40wes to sync up with the pair I have now.

Do you use Night mode for night time or change the settings to something else besides what you have set during the day?

I use the night setting, you just have to be ready at the time of the day you want to set it and then it remembers that every night, unless the MP40's lose power and it resets. Of course, if you have a WXM module, you can program it to do whatever you want throughout the day and night.

@Fishbeard - a little research on lagoon mode, even Ecotech recommends Reefcrest for SPS tanks, but I hear what you are saying about the "power", as the charts for lagoon on average are staying at higher power, but I think the randomness of RC is much better for SPS tanks. I do want to get a 3rd mp40 as well to get my gyre on!

Lagoon is the 4th one down (RC is the 3rd), so it's more random for RC, but the power used is all over the place.
