MP60 does not stay in place

I have four MP60s in my 500g. Matt installed my system and did a beautiful job. My MP60s loosen up and they fall off and the motor is behind the beautiful fixed framing enclosure and I am unable to get to it. Matt will be coming to retrieve it for us. My question : How to best anchor the motor in place so it does not keep falling off. I need to be able to vary the flow etc and not worry about loosing the motor and have difficulty retrieving it. Motor is behind the fixed vertical boards at each end
As I said beautiful setup but placement of our MP 60's are less than optimal!!
Any ideas to anchor solidly and still be able to remove if maintenance is needed will be essential

WE LOVE OUR TANK AND THE WORK DONE BY SHO-TANK (all work is done by Matt himself). Only challenge are the MPs and bubbles that are being tackled by Matt.. Thanks for your thoughts on the anchoring of the Mp's!!

Tie/ glue a piece of fishing line to it so you just pull it up if it falls again
Same way you can retrieve it too. Take fishing line attach a magnet drop it down and the magnets will grab each other and pull it up and out.

That seems strange that they keep falling off. Are they set for the right glass thickness? Are they all doing this or just one?

Beautiful tank, BTW!

This is just a suggestion even though it might be a long shot: I'm guessing the MP60s were all purchased/manufactured at the same time? Maybe a bad batch of magnets? Ecotech has excellent customer service so an email just asking about similar problems might be helpful. Or maybe a thinner spacer is needed?

(BTW - beautiful tank!)

agree with the above . also do you use the sticky squares they came with , i had issue with 10's falling off 1/2" glass so i used the sticky guys which help take some stress off the magnets . so the chord is supported by them ziptie holders

Thanks John appreciate the ideas. Magnets to retrieve is an excellent thought.. thanks..... Now I have to see if my Tiger Shark floating magnet will do the trick

yes Matt added even more of those squares all around and from what I remember (I am not sure it is done on all four) he did put a zip-tie around the cable

Thanks Marilyn We love the tank and Matt's carpentry work is amazing.. I have everything bought and installed by a reliable professional "Matt of Sho-Tank" that I have known for years so I assume it is the right size magnet .. I think the glass on the sides is 3/4inch thick . Three out of four have fallen at different times!!!!

I believe Matt used the thinnest spacer !!! I will wait till Matt comes over to retieve that part as he would call himself Ecotech if he thought it is their problems...

Thanks to ALL for your helpful suggestions Appreciate it
WE LOVE OUR TANK and the hard labor that comes with it!!!!

The MP40's and I think the MP60's spacers can be completely removed and run only using the rubber gasket, it is designed this way. For example, the MP40 with the spacer doesn't show a fitment of 3/4" but if you look through online videos and the directions, it tells you to completely remove it for the max thickness allowed. The MP10's are built completely different.

I'll definitely look into doing that as it is a real issue with my setup loosing the motor piece that is very incaccessible!! THANKS

Pls help me out Ted what are you talking about when you say "pin spacers"???

From EcoTech FAQ:

Is your pin spacer set to the proper setting (MP60, MP40 and MP20)? This is engineered to correspond with the thickness of your aquarium walls. The pin spacer has five different settings that permit the magnets to sit at the correct distance from each other to allow standard operation of your VorTech pump. If the distance is set too high for your aquarium, it will inhibit the magnets from creating a strong enough bond to keep your VorTech adhered to your tank.

I'm not entirely sure the MP60 utilizes the pin spacers though.

It worked Thanks John Was able to retrieve it BUT it keeps falling off .. and with a bad back I cannot align it better Tried with both hands but no luck

Any ideas to how to get the parts to line up so MP60 would run. Limited reach to motor side and with a bad back at 70 years I am unable to get it to stay. Plus those sticky things all fell off maybe from the temp. or were not there in the first place, around this MP. Maybe heat loosened them up do not know. Would love to get this MP60 running as I am not sure when Matt will be able to come...

It uses pads with a different thickness setting. I assume he has the wrong pads, and also not using the tools that prevent them from falling.

I assume they were never used, I highly doubt they would fall off. You are over 45 minutes away from me, otherwise I'd offer to come assist you. Are all four MP60's falling or just the one?

The mounts provided are meant to keep them from falling far, or even at all if correctly tied down. If the other three are up and running, I'd just turn the flow up on those three for the time being.
