My 28gallon JBJ

Just a word of caution on those banded gobies, they are sand sifting factories. Expect anything and everything in the lower half of your tank to be snowed on.

Looks like it's out of the running, this is another part of the reason I haven't decided as I in all honesty haven't done anything but the basic research on these guys. Def don't want a monster sifter in the nano, when I get a larger tank again sure, but even then it's going to be hard for me to not want to get another Dragon as that was one of my favorite fish I had in my 125 along with the Mandarin I had.

Im in the same boat, banded sleeper in my 60g, killed off two mini colonies of acans and almost killed a brain coral. He was a great fish, and kept the sand really clean, he just wasnt aware of the damage he was doing... If i ever do a big fowlr, ill definitely get another one again.

Picked up a hammer from MCF, man they had some gorgeous pieces, added another peice of rock so the back didnt look bare as well as a peppermint shrimp and a sand sifter star.

So hammer is gone, couldn't save it despite the help from everyone on the forums, Mg was rather low and it just could not recover. I picked up a frogspawn frag(2 heads) and WOW do I wish I took pics when I brought it home a month ago, the thing has doubled in size! also picked up another pair of acan frags and another zoa frag which I think is Dragon eye's(not so great with the nicknames lol) I wll get pics up this weekend.

Bad news, added a second peppermint, after letting it loose watched it for 5 minutes, haven't seen it since(almost 3 weeks), more of an oh well tbh....but the really bad news is I have not seen my fire shrimp in 4 days and while I normally can see it tucked in the rock in the back of the tank it does not appear to be there, I have searched all over and have not seen it....I hope he is just hiding from a rough molt or something.

Also back to not having a clue what I want with lights....Ecotech buys some stuff from us, and an order yesterday turned into casual conversation, turned into a full on discussion about lights and spectrums and the purchaser sending me a bunch of pics from their beta tests with the Radeon's....and now has me leaning DiY with a few UV, red, and greens.....honestly I am just setting myself a deadline of March 18th, and I am buying something then.

I am starting to wonder if I the peice of rock I picked up recently had a hitchhiker, I rearranged some of the rock today as the koralia seemed to stop working, and while I was at pulling it out I figured I would move a few other peices.....no sign of the fire shrimp, also as of yesterday the other peppermint shrimp was missing...and one of the largest snails I have is dead and the shell is empty....I haven't heard anything and I have looked for anything....should I give the rock a freshwater bath and see?

Pulled the new rock fresh water bath for 5 minutes and nothing in the bucket, so I decided lets keep working on this and started pulling rocks looking for a burrow....no burrows, no sign of any of the 3 shrimp....so only thing I can think of is that I am not feeding enough and maybe iodine or something was low and they all had bad molts and the cuc saw them in trouble and finished them off? Idk, going to be picking up a iodine test kit this weekend before I get any more shrimp, still hoping at least one of the peppermints shows back up and it was hiding or tucked away in a rock, but the fire shrimp was way too big for that to be the case.

Picked up a couple sps frags and 3 sunrise chromis from mcf this weekend.

Trying to find a solution with the heater as I have to turn it way up if I keep it in the "heater chamber" due to lack of flow I guess threw there. I may move the carbon to the media basket instead of the return chamber now with the new scape the rock is not hiding it anymore.

Going to try and find time to take some pics with the actual camera tommorrow

Fish are really hard to photgraph right now, the biggest of the three sunshine's is the last two days has been set on testing the clown's limits of what is her part of the tank. Needless to say the second it crosses into her barrier she doesn't allow it, so in turn it had to chase the smaller two sunshine's and they are very active as it is. I took like 20 pics of the the clown but she just loves the back corner too much and is very hard to get pics of, I will keep trying and hopefully within a month have a new onyx to pair with her, hoping that will get her out and about in the tank more.

So due to a jumper we had a change of plans....one of the chromis found themselves a way into the back compartment of the tank, in the return section....tried everything I could think of and could not get it out. So instead of ordering the led's this weekend I had to buy the wood and start building the stand and will be changing from the aio setup before the led's. Luckily I was able to see it eat a bit when I put some food in the compartment, although it wouldn't eat until it got all the way to the bottom of the compartment.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to catch and move it? I really hate the idea of leaving it back there until sat/sun when I will be able to have the stand/sump/overflow ready to go.

cut long strips of 2 liter bottle to the same width as the horizontal depth of the rear chamber (2.5 inches or whatever). Then keep inserting them around him to drive him up and get a tiny net under him. Much easier with help. You can even crimp them a little to scoop under him.

got a new camera, nothig fancy powershot 3300. Here are the first pics, I know playign with the settings will yield better results.

Also excuse the dirty glass lol, again new camera didnt know that little bit would show like that

Going to play more with it tommorrow and hope for even better pics.

Vodka dosing seems to be going great, although I haven't seen the skimmate darken and thicken up, so not sure when to expect that. Levels have fallen substansially, ran Kent's phosphate sponge, and also did two different 6 gal water changes in the last 9 days. New tests read .05 phosphate and 15 nitrates, expect to see them completely gone by the next water change in just a few days. Picked up a Tangoara Goby to go with the pistol shrimp and released him right by the burrow the shrimp is normally in, he stayed there for two days and now has moved more towards the back, still hoping they pair up(they may have even and the shrimp may have moved the hang out as well), a nice nuclear green paly mini colony and a mini colony tri color acro. Went to take pictures yesterday and something was off with the camera, hoping playing with it will get some good pics in the next couple of days.

So I haven't posted in two years.....struggled a bit with various water problems(eventually pinned it to the pistol shrimp digging up the substrate and releasing a ton of crap), then about a year and a half into the constant struggle of keeping levels down and slowly removing sand had the heater stick on and crash the tank. Everything died sans a few hermits and two chromis, was very depressing and just kept those alive until I recently got the bug.....well since then got a chiller, bought a ro/di unit so no matter what happens I can handle the water the way I should, a kessil led, and just got in my mp10 es yesterday(jumped on the brs sale!). Have been aggressively making water changes and now phosphate is completely gone and nitrates holding at 5ppm, while removing substrate every few days. Doing one more water change tomorrow night to get ready to start adding coral again this weekend! Very excited about the rebirth of the tank!

Thanks, hoping for sustained success this time around with all the new equipment, I tried getting by with lesser stuff coming from a much larger tank into the nano, and learned that they are a lot more volatile the hard way.

Got a nice start restocking from tangency and picked up a couple of frags

Green slimmer from chiblackhawks4, had to move it to the sand, didn't seem to like the original placement that was kinda right under the kessil, will be finding it a new place on the rock here now that its showing some PEView attachment 4419

Adding a few fish more fish will be coming soon, although the black/yellow chromis that is in there is quite the asshole(he did kill one of the others I got at the same time form bullying) so will need to find the fish I want that are about the same size or larger, that's why I redid the rocks to hopefully cut down on his aggression when I start adding in the next week or so.
