My 50 Cadlights Cube Artisan 2 Build

Hopefully you find the cause, Dom, although temp swings usually don't help anything. :)

Good luck, sir!

Thanks Ben! I'm just going to keep trying to figure out what the issue is by narrowing down possible causes. Eventually I'll stop doing something and it'll stop.

Quick update time:

Tank has been doing fairly well. I've been changing out the gfo every week to two weeks and have seen a noticeable drop in phosphates. Now when I hit the two week mark and test, my phosphates have only risen to .07, which is considerably better than what they were. All other parameters are good to really good.

The only additions I've made thus far coral wise are two fungia plates, and a couple small yuma's. I'm still very hesitant to add any sps right now. I may wait until coralline begins to grow, or I notice that the phosphates remain unchanged during my tests.

Here is a quick pic I just took. Sorry the blues have been ramping up from full sun mode for the last couple hours.

The game plan is to continue doing maintenance on the tank until I feel comfortable adding in an sps frag. I'll update again once there is something to update.

I see my tank lives!!! Lol that was my tank b4 Phil's. Looking good.

LOL!! Yes it lives on, a little worse for wear.

Thanks bro, I really like the tank a lot. It was a struggle to get plumbed because of the tight working area below the tank, as well as a struggle to get it ready for sps, but it's getting there.

Love this build Dom! I am also pumped, because now I can get all the info I need on that Kessil 360w!! I want to get this for my 57g, which will mostly be Z&P, nems. Do you have any regrets with the 360w vs. the standard 360? When I get my new controller I'm going to pick your brain on set ups that you feel are the best for the Kessil. I hear the shimmer on these are amazing, which is one reason I am wanting one, plus I like the look of the pendent versus the flat rectangle fixtures. Thanks for sharing man!!

Thanks Doug!

I went went the 360W because it covers the exact footprint of this tank, 24X24. The 360N was I believe 18X18. I actually emailed kessil to ask and they answered my questions fairly well. I honestly don't have any regrets with this fixture. If you can hang it really well, it looks very clean vs a fixture. That part I really like about it is when I need to do anything in the tank. The canon never gets in my way.

The shimmer is incredible. I've had a couple people think I was using MH and I just laughed because of how great the shimmer is.

One of the top reasons I got the kessil is because I can control it with my apex. You can program it however you want. It doesn't have thunderstorms, and cloudy days, etc. but I'm sure you can emulate clouds if you had the time and motivation to program in some cloudy type days.

My coding I used is a couple pages back so if you have any questions, just let me know. It's fairly straightforward.

Dom the tank is looking awesome. And b patient for sps. Even with dr Tim's I still waited around 3 months to add an sps. Keep up the good work also. I'll have to stop by one day to check it out.

Thanks Jaime!

Yeah overall I'm not all that impressed with Dr. Tims. It does help with the cycle, but next time, I'm just going to let nature take it's course. There is nothing that beats a natural cycle IMO. I really wish I would have just used my prior experiences with bacteria/instant cycle in a bottle.

But yes, I am going to take my time with sps now. The tank really needs to have coralline start to appear before adding them so I'll wait a bit longer.

This tank has been doing pretty good for a while now, but I haven't added anything new in a very long time.

This week I plan on doing a water change so I will slowly begin adding a frag here and there.

I'll also get a few pics up soon. The coralline algae has taken off and has begun to cover the rocks. I think it's time to start adding in sps soon, but only if my phosphates are low.

All of the residents are still healthy and doing well.

Quick pic from yesterday before I do a water change this evening.

Tank looks great!

Thanks Jaime! I feel confident enough now that the tank has matured to start adding a frag or two into the mix.

I'll snag something from AP tomorrow during the meet up. Not sure what, but more than likely they won't be acros, well not yet anyway.

Tank looks awesome bro.. Im still jealous that u have that radiant wrasse dem it lol

So this update is about a year and a half late, lol, but here goes.

Shortly after my last update, the company that I had worked for, for 9 years, and myself parted ways. It took up until January to find a new job, mainly because of laziness and being picky. I ended up changing jobs again in June to something more suited to what I've been doing over the last 9 years and it's going well, albeit very busy. Lot's of travel, working late, etc.

Anyways, I'm sure you guys don't want to hear about that.

Well over that period of time, I completely lost interest, motivation, etc. in reefing. I'd gotten somewhat tired of hearing about ultra this, rare that, blah blah blah, and completely lost interest in the hobby. Both tanks went downhill. Shocking right?

My 27 cube was just taken down yesterday. That one had gone way downhill, way more than the 50 cube. I had a horrible invasion of grape caulerpa. I'd pull it all out, and a week later it was coming back something fierce. Eventually I just said F it and stopped taking care of the tank completely, along with the 50 cube.

I've had problems with this 50 cube from the get go, pretty much stocking it was too soon with both corals and fish, and ended up losing a whole bunch of really nice corals which obviously pissed me off. The tank hasn't had the water changed probably since my last post on this thread. Surprisingly the fish and the nems are doing well.

About a week ago I did a WC on the tank, and am waiting for some GFO to come in so that I can change that stuff out in the reactor. I'll try to get a pic up soon, but want to wait until I get the GFO changed out and stuff. I'll probably do it over the next couple of days.

Just looking at the pic above, I noticed that there are some fish that passed on. The only fish remaining are the Radiant Wrasse, one chromis, and that Picasso clown.

Now that I only have one tank to focus on, I'll be able to get this one into shape again and begin stocking it sanely. I haven't tested the water in a very long time so before I change out the GFO, I'll be running all the tests to see where I'm at and make any corrections that are necessary.

As far as SPS, I'm sure I'm a while away from being able to start adding those in, but I'm only going to add "easy" SPS, and mostly stuff that I like.

So stayed tuned, and sorry about being absent for so long. I do try to pop in and look around here and there as time allows, and will continue to pop in. For those that went to the Christmas party, sorry I wasn't able to be there. I really, really wanted to get that 27 cube down, and it took damn near all day up until this morning when I dropped the rest of the equipment off at the storage unit.

If I manage to forget to post a pic, shoot me a reminder lol. I have way too much going on. I'm glad I don't have kids because I'd more than likely lose my mind, whatever left of it there is from being pulled in twenty different directions.

Welcome back, sort of. I hope your tank provides you some stress relief.

Thanks man! I hope that it does as well. It added to the stress in the beginning but now that I only have one tank to focus on, everything will be good!
