My JBJ Nano cube 12DX

Looking better! I can't wait for my cycle to be done so I can start adding fish, corals, and a cleaner crew! Gonna pick up a couple more pounds of live rock and either tonight or tomorrow I'm gonna do my first water change, test, and I'm going to change up the filters!

There's really no need to do any water changes or run filters until your cycle is completed, there's nothing in your tank that needs filtering at this time. Some people would even say you extend your cycle changing water out since you are taking out the ammonia and nitrites needed to cycle the rocks live. You would "probably" be fine adding some blue leg hermits if you want some movement in the tank, they are pretty bulletproof like cockroaches. I'd give you a couple so you don't have to spend money if they end up not making it, just be sure to keep them fed with a little piece of seaweed or something until you get algae growth for them to forage on.

Might be hitting up Midwest coral farms soon! Thinking about picking up a couple crabs!

FishBeard, thanks for the offer but you live super far from me!

Stopped by MCF yesterday and picked up ~4 more lbs of live rock and a few cleaners! Thinking that my aquascape is done! Now it's just a waiting game for my cycle to be done and then I can start adding some cheap frags and cooler inverts and maybe a goby for starters!

Also I took a crack at fragging! I ripped off some flapping sections of my freebie tester green star polyps and glued them to little pieces of rubble I picked up. We'll see how they do. I'll post pics if they decide to open up!

No food has gone into the tank yet, haven't done a water change because I heard it was kinda not needed while still cycling, and I've got like ~450gph in my 12G....so idk...I was thinking it was because for the last two days I've been letting sunlight get at my tank....

If you are running lights during your cycle, they are not needed. If you are worried about your freebee GSPs run the light for 8 hours every couple of days. Other than that, let it be dark.

Algae needs two things to grow. Nutrients, and light. If you aren't giving the tank nutrients and restricting light you shouldn't have any algae.

Did you use RO water to fill?

Yes I did use RO water and thanks a ton for the advise. I'll tap back the amount of light the tank gets because it has been getting A LOT!

Been a while since an update! Since my last update i've gotten my tank pretty much as fully cycled as its going to be. I've added a pretty nifty cleaner crew! I've got probably ~25 snails and hermits of at least 4 or so different kinds as well as an emerald crab, brittle star, and peppermint shrimp.

As far as corals go, my main GSP colony is doing great and is looking fuller every day and the two GSP frags that I made are doing great and getting bigger. I also picked up a nice ricordea frag from Midwest Coral Farms for $5 because it was too good a deal to pass up! Its a single head right now but it literally looks like its about to become 3 heads and day now! Also can't forget the zoa's that came on some live rock that I got that I didn't even know existed until a few days ago! We'll see how those do!On monday I'm going to check out a guy's tank that is being parted out and possibly pick up a finger leather, or some frogspawn, or MAYBE even a pair of occelaris clowns!

NOW PICS! (taken off my iphone...not the worst but could be better)

Where to start?! Since my last update I have a nice score off of Craigslist and I also paid another visit to the dudes at midwest coral farms! New additions to the tank include the following: GIANT Toadstool Leather, a good size frag of neon green candy cane coral, 3 nice size frags of Kenya Tree Leathers, 2 little frags of finger leather, a blood shrimp, 2 LARGE snails, and another emerald crab because my other one really cracked me up!

PICS!

My whole tank as of this morning!

Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm so excited about my tank and am very happy with its progress so far! I cant wait to keep adding to it! My next addition is going to be a pair of clowns! Midwest Coral Farms is currently on the lookout for a pair for my tank!

P.S. There is a good chance that next week I will be fully upgrading to L.E.D. lighting for my tank and if that happens then there is a good chance I might be able to start growing some SPS...we'll see!

That's all for now!

Wow! Looks great so far.

You might want to look into running carbon if you plan on keeping SPS and even LPS with your soft corals.

Well I am running Chemi-Pure and Purigen in the back chambers of my tank...might have to step it up a little though!

Picked up two branches of pulsing xenia and a couple heads of red mushrooms glued to a frag plug from midwest coral farms today......(even though i wasnt planning on buying anything there today!) Pics once they are in the tank and all settled in.
