My New Fish Growout System

Thanks everyone. I plan to have mesh and clowns at the swap. There will also be a few corals as well.

I hope to have the lighting for the system done and get the rest of my controller stuff for the system by the end of the month.

do the babies just need lights so you can see them and they can see around or is there some sort of PAR requirement? Just curious.

I'm considering a very similar sump setup, but without the divider in the middle. Does it make much noise from water falling from one chamber to the next?

Really you just need enough light for them to be able to see to eat and for you to see them. Most guys use standard flourscent bulbs for there fish room grow out systems. I do find with my onyx clownfish (rod's strain) that intense light tends to help them color black faster. I had a bunch that were under light and were showing nice black coloration. I left for vacation and I did not have the lights on while I was gone and they lost all of there black. A light in the room was going on so they could be fed but the T5's over their tank were off.

I do not notice much noise but my fishroom is loud so it is hard to tell. All of my sumps have been designed with water dropping over the baffles. Typically I use a 1" drop from baffle to baffle.

Well I got some more work done on the system this weekend. I moved my air system over to the new system from the old one. I also now have 6 of the 7 tanks running now with fish in them. I just need to get the last 20 running and in place. Once I get my apex energy bars and pm1 module I will get the whole system on a controller. The next thing is to figure out the lighting. I still have not found an option that I like.

Here are a couple of pictures. First is the air pump. In my opinion Jehmco makes the best air pumps. This is their largerst diaphram pump. I think it should handle the whole system. If not I will upgrade to one of their linear piston pumps.

I had been wanted to get some lids for the tanks but ordinary glass tops would not work. I saw that Will was making tanks and asked if he can make me some lids. I got them tonight. I must say he did really nice work, with a super fast delivery at a reasonable price. If you need some acrylic work done he is your guy. Here are a couple of pictures. Thanks again Will

To give an update I started the second side. I bought 3 more 20's and got them drilled and bought all the plumbing. I just need to take my sump offline of my old system and modify it. Hopefully I will get the sump moved and done this weekend and I can start plumbing the second side.

Wow, I am really impressed. I thought SPS took a lot of TLC but breeding and raising fry has to take some serious dedication.

No, I am talking about the Red Spotted Glass Cardinalfish. You rarely see them available outside of Divers Den.

Those are cool, pretty hard to come across I would guess

Thanks, It does take a lot of time but it is worth it. It is so cool to watch hundreds of clown fish attacking the glass when you come into the room.

The second side is water tested and ready to go. Fish to be moved over in the next day or two.

Thanks guys. The fish have been moved over. Next I need to add the 40 breeder to the system, figure out the lighting and get the k1 filter up and running.
