Well, after a short hiatus, I am happy to be back. This is my new gently used Biocube that I purchased from Beardown, today. Thanks, Adam. I am very excited to be back and look forward to actually getting SPS to grow this time.

Welcome back. I took a short break from the hobby and came back a few months ago. So glad to be back.

Look forward to seeing the tank up and running

Why would they recommend that?

Some more experienced members will need to chime in on this since I'v only been doing this for 2 months but from my research it sounds like a deep sand bed gives you benefits but also will trap waste and eventually turn into a "time bomb" where if you disturb it after a certain point of waste build up it would have a seriously negative effect on your water quality.

DSB does help but usually more in a refugeum setup. Just like joe said. It can turn into a big issue if the sand bed is disturbed once it has started the cycle

I don't think that's enough substrate nor the right type to be considered a DSB. Illinijoe - I'm curious which LFS gave you that advice.

I would say that is still in the "date" realm. I started with that much sand my first go around, lasted over a year with no issues. Tore down the tank after that for a re-scape, but seemed to be okay. And I have a 29g biocube
