I am looking to get a new camra and don't know much about them, I have a $500 budget. What do you guys think is the best deal in that price range? This will be used fit everything not just reefing, hope you guys can help me chose the right camra. Been looking at the cannon rebl package

$500 then Canon Rebel is good enough. If you got more cash, then go for Sony. I owned lost of Canon lenses so hard to change other system, otherwise Sony is my next move.

Sony Dslr is lot of money, I dont recommend point and shoot camera (if not raw format). Get the Canon Rebel 6ti with 18-55 IS s enough for your money and good enough for picture everything.

Not alot of money....I know for a fact we have Sony A6000 with extra lens (55-210) and a Sony bag, open box at Best Buy right now for $703.99, really good deal! Light weight, 11fps, 24.7mp. But ya a little bit more than you wanted to spend but in my opinion much better camera.

Add another short len then double the $500 as OP said...By the way I dont like the 55-210mm len...also it 2014 camera...
Buy the Rebel 6Ti better and just a little more than $500

Mirrorless is where it is at now. Sony A6000. I am about to sell all my Nikon DSLR gears for mirrorless. Same / better image quality at half the size of a big DSLR.

Yep, best mirrorless camera (I forgot about it), small and very nice sharp picture. The problem is good lenses so expensive...

Lens are not any more expensive than Nikon or Canon lens and they are on par with consumer level Nikon / Canon lens. The OP is not gonna drop $2k on a pro Nikon / Canon lens anyway.
