New Fish on Milwaukee and Division

Their Fish prices aren't that bad compared to others in the city, as many here have said. I paid $75 when I was a super n00b for a Lubbocks fairy wrasse at old town. Yea, they normally go for $30. Granted it was a great and healthy fish but $75 compared to $30? That is what city prices are like in Old Town.

The shop in Norridge and this one are decent on fish. Livingsea is too if you sign up for the newsletter and catch a fish you need on sale. Like Frosty said, the gas and traffic to hike up to the burbs to save a few bucks is not a deal.

I still have to meet James and i want to see the back room! Actually I might go today.

The good thing about Old Town is that they have some Rare fish and you get what you pay for. I believe the owner is a diver and goes diving for most of the fish he brings back. So I can see where a Lubbock fairy wrasse can go for $75 instead of the normal $30. But you got a nice fish reguardless.

That is true. I just wouldn't shop there again unless it is something I absolutely have to have. Which could be anything lol

New fish is my go to fish store, James is very knowledgeable and is also very calm and doesn't rub things on you that you don't need. He even denied to sell me a fish cause I have too many for my tank at that time lol

But all in all I like the new fish store very much.

Old town on other hand targets customers with deep pockets or ATleast used to .. Now their fish prices aren't as bad as they used to be. And they do get special and rare stuff. I know I'm paying too much but still paid 53 dollars for a percula clown at old town, but you get what you pay for.

I like New Fish. His prices are a few more dollars the other LFS but I like that he QTs his fish and I can always find parking in the loading zone in front of the shop. James is cool and knows his stuff and the white kid is too cute and fun and has a great personality.

I wish they had more dry goods and they usually have the best selection of Marco Rock in stock and at the same online price of $3 a pound. Coral prices are very much in line with the other LFSs and he has sales several times a year that makes it a great value. When I was there last year, he was doing something like buy 2 colonies and get one free or something similiar. The coral tanks are now clean and free of algae and he's got the system running in a sweetspot and doing well.

I'll continue to go there when I can remember that the shop is there. I rarely see emails or facebook updates so I always forget that the shop is less than 5 miles away and I wish he would promote his shop more by sending more emails, using social media or becoming a sponsor. Oh well.

I like these guys, they're fish are qt and i dont have to drive far. James and his staff are always cool and will talk about stuff with you. The prices are imo are a bit above what you would normally pay but its offset by the QTing and the location. A+ in my book.

Agreed! They have a really nice QT system.

We tend to like Old Town for Fish and New Fish for Coral. Old town does have a ton of really nice and rare fish, healthy too! Our tank is maxed out though, so we haven't bought fish in a LONNNNG time. Which is why we love going to New Fish now... cause you can never have too much coral! :)

But ****, 200+ zoas for 30$ seems very reasonable. Any pics?

I will try to snap a pic this weekend. I think he has a few huge colony rocks left... at least he did when I was in there this past weekend. Not sure if they are ALWAYS $30 for those huge rocks of if James was being nice (like usual) and cut me a deal. If they are always $30 I am prob gonna go back for another one. Cause that deal was really great!!! :-)

Looking forward to his shipment today. Heard it's gonna be a large shipment of mostly LPS... Frogspawn, Torches, Hammers, Bubbles, Open Brains. Whoo Hoo! :-)

Will you let me know if they get in any purple torches?? PLEASE

Yup, I forget he is there because of the lack of advertisement.

Is it the brown zoas colony? His FRAGS are $30. I am surprised he would sell a colony for $30.

New fish is the place to go ! James is the Man ! Variety is great and healthy , quarantines fish before putting them on the floor , has great freshwater selection too , and most important the prices are fair on everything !

I visited this store for the first time - the place was much smaller than I expected, but all the fish and corals looked great. The tanks looked immaculately kept. The selection was on the small side - I was looking for a standard firefish, but they only had the purple ($40) and the helfrichi. I did get to meet James, and as everyone says, he is a really nice guy. I would be willing to pay a little extra to support this place and also provide a slight bit of competition to old town. Ended up buying one decent sized peppermint shrimp ($6) as a show of support. I then drove over to old town aquarium - the place was packed since all livestock was 25% off and bought the firefish ($15 after discount).

I am stocking my tank and will give New Fish a few more tries. Parking is a lot easier than at old town.
