New Phone

Yeah, but I'd rather not mess with the warranty...especially with a new, expensive phone. Not worth it to me.

There is a federal law that protects the owner of the handset if they choose to modify the software portion of the device. Since software is not provided under warranty the company can't legally deny you warranty on the handset. There was a huge debate over the whole "jailbreaking" thing and the courts decided in favor of protecting the customers rights.

this applied to iphones.

Depends how you unlock your phone, HTC provides a way to do it but in order to do so, you accept a policy that your warranty is now void. HOWEVER, we have ways to restore back :)

I yeah I forgot about that big incident. Yes once you root you just restore as wala back to normal. I think there's also a way to unroot your phone through the rooting software. I love my iPhone it's factory unlocked so I used a cheap prepaid plan on it sometimes I have the money to get data sometimes I just get talk n text and it's convenient for me because I don't always have a lot of money. And I am jailbroken because I do tether to my laptop n iPad and it's free. And since it's iPhone I get more personalization options

I'm surprised that I've never heard of this before...if it's that easy and simple, how come everyone isn't doing this?

I'm paying $60/month for "unlimited" text and web also get to use it as a mobile hotspot. No reason for me to root.
