Reef imports and hatchery!!! aka the best store ever

I didn't know they did that. That's pretty sweet. I know other places don't...

I've called in for refunds for fish that i have ordered for myself or for folks that were in my group-buy that arrived dead or died on the 14th day and not once have they questioned me or asked for a photo of the dead fish. That means alot to me and that's why I am loyal to them, even if their fish might be slightly higher. The savings from that protection alone has paid for itself.

Other places like Happy Coral and NYA do not give that same respect.

BUT Happy Coral offers local shipping for $15 which the others do not, no it is not refunded. But again I have never had an issue with the 15 day from Happy Coral and usually end up adding something to my order anyway. And another BUT, for me to drive in to the "city" to all the LFS's offered in there costs me over $15 when you consider gas (~100 miles round trip for myself) and (6) tolls.
It all ends up being what is "cost effective" in your own opinion. If you like a place and have success, IMO, go for it. This boils down to the old argument..........."Which came first? the chicken or the egg? "

Sounds Slanderous as I can't find anyone that hasn't got refunded. Maybe you know more than I do?

Keep it clean everyone, these are opinions, my opinoin may differ from yours but ill fight to the death to ensure yours is protected. My opinion is that RIH is the cheapest, and best option for me. Also their service for me has been great.

Agreed, on all accounts.

dealt with Reef Imports atleast 5 or 6 times and have never had an issue. they also were extremely patient with my brother-in-law and helped fix issues he had with his tank and offered some great advice.

def. will be going back every other week or so.

every body has there favorite place . i personally like the place and the people working there. i also will never order livestock online . to me the funnest part of this hobby is going to lfs gives me something to do . if i just order from online might as well quit hobby . every body also has there own budget in this hobby so so places some of us cant afford to shop there. i can honestly say i shopped pretty much every lfs in the area all the way to indiana. have i lost fish from reef imports yes i have. but ive lost fish from sho tank ive lost and gotten sick fish from reef wise . every lfs i been to ive gotten sick fish and lost some . i still love sho tank matt is awsome i still love reef wise brian in another good guy . this hobby is full of ups and downs and for me to hate a lfs is because of treatment by owners or workers. i personally wont go back to coral reef because of something that was said to me there once and thats my opinion and dont ell nobody else hey dont go there i just say hey i wont be there. ive noticed everyone gets treated different at every store every store has there customers they take care of . and thats every lfs ive been to and i understand u got a person that comes in every week spends alot he gets vip status . honestly u can read through this forum and c some of u guys r nightmare customers in my opinion. heck i cant tell u guys how many times i give stuff for free and people want me to deliver it wtf i might as well throw in garbage . even selling frags hey can u deliver every time i cant tell u how much coral i throw in garbage out of frustration of people wanting cheap coral deliverd. but any way like i said i like the customer service at reef imports sissy does get little mad that i dont acclimate fish and just dump em in lol she holds her ears and pretends she dont hear me lol. again every body has there favorite places and this place is on my list along with reefwise and sho tank .

I agree. Folks should shop where it makes sense for them. One's relationship with a particular LFS won't particularly be the same as another's with that same LFS. I tend to shop at LFSs that are fair and respect all of customers, even if they don't drop several hundred dollars.

During my last visit to Reef Imports, I had a sincere conversation with the the guy that is typically in the back boxing up purchases. If anyone knows his name, please pass it along to me. I think he's middle eastern. He's a great guy, judging from our talk, and he's trying and of course there are going to be bumps in the road while they transition to retail. He was very candid with me and was not trying to sell me anything. Due to his relationship with a major coral buyer that we all know, I realize that this relationship should be nurtured as he is recommended and a good guy. Instead of walking out empty handed, I cleaned Reef Imports out of Chocolate Stars and spent another $100 on other things. It was a couple dollars more then what I typically pay 1 mile away but in the scheme of things, that is not going to bankrupt me and I am investing in my relationship with that LFS.

I think folks are confusing my comments with me saying DO NOT SHOP HERE, and that is not what I am saying. They do have great deals on starter or the most common fish and folks who are in the market for that stuff should take advantage of that great pricing. Again, I am not their target demographic. Items I am interested in I asked to be priced and those prices are listed above. They have great pricing on Mysis flats, Phyto and other foods. They have tons of nice $10-$15 frags in their zoa tanks and their prices on Alveopora and Gonipora are unmatched by any LFS that I have been too. Coral colonies are around $25-$35 which is great and larger colonies are priced very competitively as well. If you are looking for any of those items, please go and visit. But to say that all of their fish are 50-75% off of typical retail is misleading and unfair to folks like me and Gene who drive miles and miles to support a LFS. There are savings....but not that dramatic.

I didn't receive a refund for the 9 Red Spotted Cardinals that died within 2 weeks. I did get a store credit though, which I used to buy the trio of anthias that I picked up when I drove up. They were dead in my tank the next day though. I was unaware that a cash/credit refund was an option.

My apologies, Landon, for doing this to your Thank You thread. It was not my intention. :handkiss:

Very good point! The common stuff they have is priced extremely well, and the rarer stuff they have is closer to the industry standard. Still, I personally haven't seen a single item in the store that isn't priced ≤ their competitors.

Lol walt i have yet to find a place where i dont know that if i pay 50$ for something some one can.go to same store buy same thing abd get it for 30$ its all good yhough i understand how yhings work but if a store is gonna say that dont do that i call a big bs i dont name names but i know somebody for ecer lfs that can get better deal then the average man

The fish I priced were the same prices at other LFS. For example:

Borbs - $199
Chocostars - $5.75
Goldflake Angels - $225
Evansi Anthias - $29
Indo Harlequin Shrimp - $32
Small Blue Leg Hermits - 38 cents

Now these prices have been beat by other LFSs or close if not the same to Live Aquaria prices, with a guarantee.

Borbs - $199 almost everywhere you go locally.
Chocostars - $4.50 at Xzotic
Goldflake Angels - $225 is pretty good
Evansi Anthias - $29 is the same cost at LA with a 14 day guarentee
Indo Harlequin Shrimp - $25 at Coral Reef and Xzotic and other LFS
Small Blue Leg Hermits - 38 cents is great. Next cheapest is Xzotic at 50 cents.

The borb that i got is way better priced lol
