Reef imports & hatchery bought out by beyond the reef

I was at reef imports today and noticed a bunch of employees from beyond the reef packing up all the livestock. The owner of reef imports(don't know his name) told me that they got bought out and couldn't sell me anything. I later went to beyond the reef and one of their employees told me that they had in fact bought out reef imports and are planning to turn it into their shipping warehouse for online orders. Thought I should let y'all know, it's sort of a bummer since I'm new to the hobby and reef imports was close to me and the staff seemed very helpful and honest.

And who are you?

I'm just a guy who lives close to reef imports and wanted to spread the word. I'm new to the hobby and this forum so I haven't contributed much yet but I have been reading a lot of threads.

Well thanks for the heads up!! Many of us are very disappointed with this troubling news. It's a very sad day for Chicago.

an employee at beyond the reef (which was bought by a new owner several months ago) told me that they are planning to have an online service of sorts where you can buy fish online.

I wonder how it's going to work out because every time I have been to beyond the reef lately it looks neglected.

Well this'll suck.... I'm going to have to call them later today over lunch, see if there's anything that I can pick up/help move.... This was my go to store for fish! :(

So no selling to the public at all? I was going to go there today at lunchtime. Their big Zoa rocks for $35 are a steal compared to the other stores. We will probably see the same rocks for $60 at Beyond the Reef.

Geez people, burn their house down already... Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe give them a little slack over at RIH for selling off the company. Perhaps the reasoning isn't as controversial as some people seem to think. Personally I think BTR is a good place, and as long as they have been around shows they are doing something right, whether you agree with their prices or not.

I have been going to btr for a while and even after the new owners the original owner is still always there. Their prices are pretty high but they have a nice assortment of fish. Anxious to see how this pans out.
