Reef imports & hatchery bought out by beyond the reef

Geez people, burn their house down already... Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe give them a little slack over at RIH for selling off the company. Perhaps the reasoning isn't as controversial as some people seem to think. Personally I think BTR is a good place, and as long as they have been around shows they are doing something right, whether you agree with their prices or not.

I agree about selling - they wouldn't have done it if it wasn't a good deal financially. Hopefully the employees get to stay and work the warehouse side of Beyond the Reef.

For the record they will be wholesale again, they had an offer they could not refuse but the owner of RIH will still be there helping. Reef Imports will be sending some updates soon for details of what has been going on. So please don't bash if you don't know the behind the scenes and make up stuff along the way if you don't know what is really going on.

they also had to switch gears (due to health reasons) as they were no longer able to do the breeding thing which was originally their money maker. that's why they switched to a retail store originally. you do what you gotta do.

As for Beyond the Reef buying out RIH is false they only bought out all of their coral stock.

it sure sounded like they bought them out??

so in reality, they will remain open, but no longer retail and will serve as the "feeder" to BTR? so effectively they are gone to the typical reefer, as BTR will sell all their stuff? likely at higher prices.

I'm so confused now.

I didn't think RI had a very good selection of coral. I dont see how it would have been that beneficial to them. But BTR doesn't have great coral stock either also so i dunno...?

BTR is also getting a large 500gal display, will be good news for the giant show fish they had. I thought BTR had some nice fish at decent prices, but their coral was meh. Maybe this will give them a leg up in the coral department.

I was just at Beyond the Reef and there is nothing new there yet. I'm not sure where they are going to fit the coral RI had.

For 'fun' I stopped at Aquarium Adventure since I was there. The coral tanks are covered in algae now. They had a $250 softy rock (just basic zoos) with aiptasia. They should just shut down their SW section. Oh, and the discus tanks make me angry too.

I only been to BTR one time, they had a cpl nice fish but were asking waaaayyy to much moolah for them. However store was clean and looked decent.

I'm going to miss Reef Imports and Hatcheries, although they've only been open to us regular reefers for a few months. The staff as and always has been incredibly friendly, and I'm sad to see them go. Still, if it's in their best interest, and I have to beleive that it is, more power to them!

That's because..... Reef imports & hatchery got bought out by Aqua Tech. They will be only selling to Wholesalers not to the public. :listen:
