I stopped by Reefwise yesterday and had a nice long chat with Brian. We are currently working on getting him on as a sponsor. He’s totally onboard for hosting events, as he has the available space and we could probably grill outside for a future summer event on the weekends, as he is the only business out there that is open on the weekend and that entire lot is his to use. He’s open to providing the vittles and drink if we want to throw a nice sized get-together.
He’s interested in being more involved with Chicago Reefs but since he is running the shop by himself, his time is limited. His priority is his livestock so he hasn’t had much time to be more interactive with the group via social media. Remember, he’s an enthusiast with a shop who also has a day job and I really want to see him succeed. His background is in construction and he’s not a seasoned business man. Like us, he’s learning as he goes and just as passionate about this hobby as us.
I wanted to get some feedback from the group and present a few ideas to him since we are pretty passionate about our hobby. He’s working to expand and provide dry goods but he needs to be economical about his approach and leverage what he can provide us versus what he can afford without having product sitting in storage or on shelves because of mandated bulk ordering. I proposed a few ideas but I’d like to get some more ideas from everyone so we all have some input.
He’s working on getting his fish system online within the next 2 months which will quadruple his livestock on the fish end. One thing I learned about him yesterday is that he quarantines his fish. His current fish stock has one more week in QT and they will be good to go for sale with no bugs or pests and he already has a nice selection of fishes for folks with Nanos and larger systems. He has a couple huge Tangs that have some really cool personalities and his coral selection and quality is the best in my opinion.
He’s also in the process of setting up an island totally dedicated to SPS, for those of us who are more interested in them. This system will be blasted with light and I’m really excited about this, since this is the direction my tank has been headed in as well.
Again, if you have any feedback, negative or positive please send them my way. If you have any ideas, throw those at me as well. He’s a great guy and really wants to help out the reefers in the area so let’s get him to work on keeping us happy.
Thanks y’all!!
