resealing tank

Silicone is silicone. Don't buy onto this aquarium market overpriced hype garbage. There is nothing different about that $14 tube of AllGlass compared to the $4 tube of DAP or GE brand stuff. If you are worried that in 10+ years from now the silicone "might" yellow out, get the black color instead of clear. I hate seeing people get suckered into paying too much in this hobby because they are misled to believe it has to say "aquarium safe" to be acceptable to use.

I disagree, I have used DAP and GE and both have discolored within months. All Glass stays clear.

So what about the black silicone? Personal preference many people like the black over the clear anyways, and saves $10/tube... I've personally yet to see or hear of anything I've put together with DAP clear fogging or discoloring over time, and we have quite a few older tanks both in use and stored unused from the past 20 years since I was just a kid helping my dad with his aquarium projects.
 
I've used the regular GE I silicone. Had tanks in service for years with it. It never yellowed on me. I have a couple tanks with it right now, sumps with baffles. Still looks nice and clear to me.
 
so i bought GE Silicone II* Black premium waterproof 100%silicone window/door/attic/basement 3hr rain ready sun/freeze proof , but it says " for use in blah blah blah... that also provides a mold-free product protection" does that mean mold mildew resistant additives?
then it also says " not for use blow the water line, where FDA compliance is neccesary, or aquariums"

is this the same stuff that some people say is OK to use to reseal my 90 gal
has anybody used this kind? it was the closest i found at ace
 
ok thanx, returned it for ge silicone I* doesnt say anything about mold mildew or not being FDA compliant. its the window and door one (blue ) but they only had it in clear. good to go!
