Has anyone seen these or used them. They both seem like great options for smaller systems. I've been considering a skimmer upgrade (currently run SCA 302) and was looking at the Vertex omega, but these are quite intriguing. Only $160 for the 143 model and DC.

For this of you who have or have had the skimz monster skimmers How'd you like them?

Any tried these or at least have any experience with the Monzter series? The price seems very good which seems to be a bit of a red flag.

I'm also considering the BM Curve 5 or Seaside Aquatics es5. Any input?

I have not tried one of these but there is a local guy with an aquarium maintenance business that only installs the SKIMZ skimmers for his clients. The one thing I would say is that if you are going with the less expensive skimmers the big things that reduce the cost are the plastic and the type of pump. I have a Coralife skimmer that does an awesome job but it is not made to last. My other two skimmers both reef octopus will most likely outlast me in this hobby and I have the coralife just in case something happens and a backup is needed.

I would hold off on a DC skimmer right now. I did, mainly because the pumps have a tendancy to alter their output for what they consider optimal energy. That's what I have been reading and not from my own experience. I have the Skimz sm121 for sale and i can tell you, in no way are the skimz skimmers built flimsy or cheaply. They are solidly built skimmers.

Did some quick research and could not find any references to the DC issue. Do you have links?

Ok after a boat load of reading I have narrowed down to 3 choices:

•Skimz SN123
•RO Classic 1000ss
•SSA ES5

There's things I like of each and things I don't like of each so I'm kinda at a stand still

You don't think it would be overkill? I like the skimz for the price I'm just concerned with the dc pumps. They are still somewhat new.

I like the RO Classic it seems to be like a bk mini and the aquatrance pimp seems to be pretty good, but the skimmer cup doesn't have a drain. I want to run a swabbie and skimmate locker so I'd need a drain. The SSA ES5 has the sicce pump which I've heard great things about
