SkullV's Aquarium Adventures

Ted, I like how you've always threatened to get out of the SPS game but always get pulled back in. . Tank is looking great.

Hmmm, very cool, i like it.

Thanks! I actually got it from one of the local "high end" SPS collectors out here by accident. I went to his house to get a totally different piece but when I saw it (I've never seen a purely bright red digi) I begged him to sell me a piece!

I know right? I don't think I've ever managed to get completely out. I was looking back through this thread and some of my others and I think I've had at least one piece of SPS at all times since I set up the SpecV.

Big day today, the borb finally spent enough time in the water column for me to get some photos. so I whipped out the camera and took some photos of the fish and two of my favorite pieces, both from DJE .

Original WTF Tierra Del Fuego starting to color up:

DFS Real Deal Echinata is stunning and the first piece that people ask about when they come over. Can't wait for this one to grow out!

The borb! Unfortunately, him coming out was a blessing and a curse because it allowed me to get a good look at him the issue above his "left" eye, and his mildly sunk in stomach. Not sure whether the eye issue (looks like secondary bacterial infection so not too worried about it) is fluke related but since they are so susceptible to flukes and there is a possible IP issue, I'm just going to treat the display with Prazi. Either way, amazing fish and eating like a pig!

Whoa borbs got big mouths

Time to make a change on the cal/alk makeup front. While I am still 100% in love with Seachem Reef Fusion and would never use any other 2 part (not that others are bad), I absolutely hate the Jebao doser that I have been using for the past few weeks. It has been nothing but inconsistent and can't properly hold a siphon on any of the 8 dosing heads I have tried. With that I have decided to go somewhat more "old school" and purchased a Nautilus 2 pump from reefdosingpumps.com. I will be running it at a very slow rate 24/7 to dose both Reef Fusion 1/2. This should provide stability on par with a CalRX but fit in my small stand right above my custom built dosing liquid container. Can't wait to get it going as I'm getting pretty tired of having to check alk multiple times a week.

Current Setup (yes, using check valves to prevent this POS from allowing the liquid to siphon back down into the containers):

Fits like a glove, my buddy did a great job on this container and also built the acrylic doser shelf for the Jebao:

Nice upgrade! Most people don't realize that having not accurate dosing pump can wrack havoc, especially in smaller tank. I am sure now your Alk will be rock steady once you calibrate it right :)

Unreliable equipment is very aggravating. Man that is some healthy looking acrylic for that dosing tank.

That's my hope! I plan to use the Jebao for Acropower and MB7 since it isn't taking up any space under there.

Yeah, my buddy does a bunch of acrylic work for reefers/LFS around the world so he just built this for me out of scraps he had laying around.. Mostly frag racks and custom screen tops with acrylic frames for rimless/acrylic tanks, but he does do some ATO reservoirs, dosing containers, and full size aquariums.

In other news, I swapped out two of the royal blue LEDs in my fixture for two cool whites (Cree XPG-2). Added quite a bit of shimmer and still gives a ton of actinic POP when the T5s shut off. I'll be adding another 12 chips sometime in March but won't have time to install another heat sink until then.

At least I'll have rock solid dosing now at a perfect 1:1 ratio! I spent hours running the thing into a graduated cylinder at its lowest settings to get a good calibration, but I will still run it at the lowest possible setting and adjust up over the next few days.

Also a repost of the FTS since it didn't show up in the last post for some reason:

One of my buddies out here was so sick of messing with this thing that he just gave it to me. Needs a new set of propellors but other than that it's perfect! Too big for my tank, but I'll give it a shot:

Pikachu finally made it too, has a lot of coloring up to do, but looks healthy!

Just a cool shot of one of my "sleeper favorites", ORA Marshall Islands Yellow Fuzzy, from 12/17/15 and 2/7/16:
