SPS polyp extension

Yeah night is crazy. I love it. And yes pe is for feeding. I would think the opposite. If there is no food. More pe.
 
I've read that too much PE can be a very bad sign that the acro is starving, whether it be from too light little or not enough nutrients. When I see acro's fs and they have insane PE, I'm skeptical. I've personally bought boo-boo acro's that had mad PE only to find out that it diminshed once they colored up in my tank.
 
There seem to be a lot of hypotheses regarding this. I'm experiencing very minimal PE during day from all SPS other than birds nests. Night is a different story with crazy extension from all sps again other than birds nests. I have been told this is likely due to a fish in my tank that nips during the day (dwarf angel?) and sleeps at night. Makes sense even though I have never seen it nip. I never feed other than spectrum pellets so I wonder if my sps are getting any food. But then why extend during the night? I guess I haven't cared much since I've gotten good growth. But sps with PE definitely look better... Wish I could see that all the time.
 
Like i said for years some my sps dontbhave good pe till night but all doing good so as long as u hsve no pest red bugs aefw i wouldnt worry to much unless u seeing tissue loss or something
